Logitech Trackman Marble T-BC21
« on: Fri, 06 April 2012, 11:20:09 »
I've always maligned (well, I've always at least said "it's not for me") the Logitech Trackman Marble because the ball is for the index or middle finger, not the thumb.  I love the thumb trackballs from Logitech, I've bought many of them and the M570 is just the latest one in the line.

Today I left my M570 at home (DOAH!) and instead of using the horrible trackpad (it's not even a good trackpad) on my Thinkpad T510, or the Trackpoint red stick thing in the middle of the keyboard (my opinion of those varies sharply from some others here - I HATE Trackpoint!) a co-worker dug up a T-BC21 trackball for me (http://www.logitech.com/en-us/429/4680).  I was being nice - "Get that ugly piece of crap away from me", doesn't play well in an office setting, especially to one bearing an offering - when I plugged it in and started using it.

I expected terrible things to happen - the earth opens up, we all die, something like that.

I'm still using it and nothing terrible has happened yet, and I like it.  At least as much as I like a good MOUSE to point with.  The M570 is still my favorite, but I'd buy one of these T-BC21's now.

I rescind most of the bad things I've ever said about the Trackman Marble.  It's a matter of preference, and even then (now), it's still not bad.

I use this at work and isn't that bad aside from lack of easy scrolling. I'll have to check that wiki out!

After using my slimblade my mum bought that trackball. When I bought my ltrack-x I gave my mum the slimblade.
Edit: That sounds like I am 10 and live with my mum. She came round one day and used it.

Years ago, when building a system for "me mum", I bought a trackman marble wheel for her.  She wrinkled her nose at it, saying "I don't want that, I want a mouse!"  I told her to use it for three days.  If she didn't like it then, I'd buy it back from her.  Recently, she replaced that years old trackman marble wheel with a Trackman M570.

While I'm not a huge Trackball fan, my GF's Lexus CT200h's nav system has a trackball-like interface that is nice.  I do too much Excel work where I find trackballs hard to maneuver when highlighting cells and such.  I have a CST (I think) trackball somewhere I bought out of peer-pressure here on the 'Hack.
