Computer is a PC XT motherboard, keyboard is the same layout and protocol (and I believe even the same connector) as an XT, but using aluminum instead of steel for the plates, and the base is plastic rather than metal.

I've been wanting to buy one of these for years, just can't bring myself to do it. I mostly want it just for that sexy amber display.. I want to IRC on it.

Anyone know what switches that keyboard uses?

this is it^^,  seller send me two pics of it while working. in addition to this i ll get a lot of disks handbooks, and software.

on this picture you see this keyboard more detailed. and like i said before in my first posting at geekhack, my layouts will be mostly german ones. ^^
so imagine a longer enterbutton and left shift button in us layout.

Actually, US layout is mechanically identical, IIRC, as far as XT Fs go.

And, this is Model F buckling spring.

Keyboard uses the same protocol, but has an RJ connector. Oddly enough, IBM included an adapter in the box that converted the RJ connector to a 5-pin DIN for use on a regular computer.

The IBM 5155 keyboard has the best feel of any keyboard I have ever owned. It feels nicer than the AT Model F.

Really? I didn't know about that. I'd like to find one of those adapters.

The UPS guys around here just throw the package on the porch and run back to their trucks, they don't even ring the doorbell.

That's both horrible and good to hear. You should buy your friend a round of beer next time you two get together; that's one hell of a packaging job he did.

Looserboy, if you know what you're doing, I'll let you have at it...but I've brought similar machines 'online' (at least IRC, via ethernet network to high speed internet), so if you need a hand don't hesitate to ask.

You may have better luck than I've had with text mode browsers also...who knows...

That's a really great looking example of the 5155. Enjoy it.

thank you and i am very happy with it,
i wanted to have an old pc for years, but never had time for it or the mood. to post it here is only, well you read  my mind. to get informations or help, whats to do best to run this thing with internet connection especially irc (that was the idea ;D - you read my mind)

well some basic programming would be fun too i think.

you run these old keyboards at your pc? i wanrted to buy a terminal ibm keyboard with 8pin connector and plug it to my pc or notebook, but i havent bought it right now because dont know how to work out an adapter or someting like.  if there is an option to do this i would buy instantly one terminal keyboard.

i would appreciate any help and suggestions i could get from you.  to find other people who are interested in this stuff makes me more happy :-)

There's ways to adapt those. IIRC, the protocol is still the same protocol as set 2 (AT and PS/2) and 3 (terminals) keyboards, and some of the RJ45 ones are actually extended set 2, and not set 3.

Almost certainly not. That most likely just uses a PS/2 port for power.

You'd need something custom-made for this application. Or, just solder wires straight from the keyboard's controller to a Teensy...
