Keyboard with MX-Brown (German Layout)
« on: Mon, 13 August 2012, 12:38:41 »
Hi all

I'm quite new to the whole mecha stuff and have already gotten some very useful hints from hazeluff (thanks for that).
My goal is now to purchase a keyboard with brown switches as they sound like a nice start to get used to the new typing and fit good into my gaming (mostly Dota2 and FPS) and writing needs.
The problem is that the range of available keyboards with a german layout is pretty small and it seems quite hard to get affordable imports featuring this layout. After all I want to be able to send it back easily in case something is wrong or I am not able to deal with browns.

Searching for keyboards with browns available for purchase, after all "filtering" done, resulted in only those two:
QPAD MK-85 Pro Gaming Keyboard MX-Brown (~130€)
Zowie Celeritas Pro Gaming Keyboard (~115€)

The QPAD has backlight which is good for someone like me that can't blind type (I know it sucks). Furthermore I read that the Zowie had some problems concerning the longevity of the letter printing on the caps.

Are there any major reasons not try out QPAD? Does anyone have some nice/bad experiences to share?
Maybe you even know of some more keyboards with german layout that I missed somehow and that you can suggest.

Thanks in advance :)

I would get a german keyboard from Cherry. You should be able to find them relatively cheaply, and they're almost free if you get a used one on ebay.de.

I used to know a distributor in germany, but I can't seem to fird them now

I don't own either keyboard you mentioned, but I would see if there are any costar-made keyboards that come in german layout.

You should be able to get a Compaq 11800 off of ebay pretty easy. Or just search for Cherry Brown on Amazon, lots of stuff on there.

I wish there was, but as far as amazon.de goes, it's really scarce. Ebay is no place I really wanted to search but even there I could'nt find anything useful (I'm not THAT desperate http://preview.tinyurl.com/bq4lrxg)

The only keyboard I may have found is the "Cherry G80-3000LQCDE-2". Some say the Q means clear/white, some say it means brown switches. What is actually correct?
Apart from being quite cheap, it seems to have a somewhat loud case and there seem to be problems concerning multiple keys pressed at the same time. As I want to use the keyboard for gaming purposes also, I would prefer something more reliable. Also it's not very pretty. I don't need flashy lights and fancy logos, but this does board not really fit into the rest of my stuff on my desk.

Why are keyboards with brown switches so much harder to get in comparison to blue/black and even red :(

It's really not about the money that much as I don't plan to invest into a collection of mechas (yet^^). If someone could tell me that the QPAD has no major setbacks or known issues I will gladly use this keyboard for the next years.
