Doubleshot keycap sets
« on: Fri, 09 November 2012, 10:01:16 »
Hi All,
I'm still a noob here, so forgive me if this has been mentioned, but I couldn't find any threads on the topic...
Signature Plastics has individual sets of doubleshot keys for sale. I am thinking of ordering a set to check them out.
I have no experience with their product, so any feedback on the quality of their keys would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Octane

SP doubleshots are good quality. Most of the group buys keycap sets are done by SP. If you are talking about the back & white set, it's quite nice. I have one on my poker (with other SP keys):

Cherry doubleshots are considered to be better but they are not produced anymore.

Thanks for the fast replies !
Those keyboards look great. I ordered a set and will order the modifier set in a few days - to avoid duty and import fees.  ;D
Sadly, I only have one keyboard so far and really like the dye sub keys I got from Feng. I guess I need another keyboard already.  :))

The ABS doubleshots from SP are nice, but quite thin.  They're also very prone to shine under even light usage.

I wouldn't buy them if you plan on using them regularly.  They're great for novelty keys/sets.

If you like your dyesubs from feng, stick to it =)

Thanks DanGWanG
They are just as a novelty item, as are the other doubleshots I have been "needing" lately. I did plan on using them occasionally if I put them on another keyboard, but now I think I will just keep them with the rest. Thanks for saving me over $100 on another keyboard... for now  :))

I agree with DANGWANGMANG 100%.

The ABS doubleshots from SP are pretty nice, kind of thin though.    They are definitely prone to shine under even light usage like he said.

I wouldn't buy them either if you are planning on using them.   =)

+1

Thin~Thin~ThinThinThin~

people get SP DS for the style. If you want quality thick double shot, go for the DS by Cherry.

Thin doesn't really matter unless you're a connoisseur (beyond the normal level of enthusiast).  Far too many newbies get talked into believing in the thickness fetish for no good reason.  And all keys made of ABS plastic (like SP's) will shine quickly.  I have thick Cherry doubleshots that I can see myself in.

Thick is the awesomeness! LOL, shiny key is never an issue for me. I have had experience with SP DS as well as cherry caps. Personally I very much prefer the typing sound emitted (lower in tone) by the thicker caps (ABS or not). Solid and humble they feel. :P

I find myself disliking thin ABS caps; I find bottoming out on them very uncomfortable (sharp) compared to the POM (can't compare to PBT yet), but at least o-ring modding makes them tolerable.

My SP keycaps definitely sounds more quiet and solid than my Cherry thick caps.

The ISO shifts we've ordered in the past are 1.25x.  The keys shown in the ISO kit on http://keycapsdirect.com/customized all look wider than they should ... I suspect they are actually all the right size.

Hmm, looking at relative sizes on that image I hoped the kit included a 1.25 and a 1.75 shift.  Wouldn't want to have to get a tsangan kit for a pure 1.75 shift.
