great deal on a 7770 ($99.00 after rebate, $120.00 takes it home)

Sadly this isn't quite the 7950 i'm looking for, but this is a great price on a 7770 (100 bucks after various rebates., 120 instant.)

a good card for a fantastic price. This is a step up from the 4870 i'm running right now, and is pretty close to a 560/560 ti now that ATI got off their duffs and wrote optimized drivers.

Anyway to make this work in a mac pro?

Working in EFI is a bonus, as I have 0 cards that do that now. I think if I can get a videocard (either my old 4650 or a new one like this) working in Mac, then I can probably sell it and buy a real computer.

Either way: Sweet deal. I want one.

I'm almost positive it won't. Admittedly I deal with windows PCs but I think the Macs are bios-locked to the cards.

IDK maybe i'm retarded, let me check.

UPDATE: I guess it's not so much that the cards are specifically locked to the board in some fit of apple techno-voodoo, but simply that the cards don't have the drivers available on the device to support it. Theoretically if you had a machine that had the proper drivers, and swapped it out of the PCI-E slot. . . yeah, it might work.

DOUBLE UPDATE: Hmm. it appears that the 7770 has Linux drivers and I know that the mac OSes are traditionally based off Unix. . . I doubt it but would it work with the linux drivers?
I don't know near as much about UEFI or EFI bios to inform you on that front.

I wonder how well this thing would work with those Yamakasi monitors... tempting.

I personally usually go for Nvidia stuff.

Is there anything specifically special about the yamakasi's besides being an S-IPS panel? I don't see any reason why it WOULDN'T work if that's the case.

If you want a comparison to Nvidia, Tom's recently did a comparison between the 650 and the 660 with this card thrown into the mix.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-660-geforce-gtx-650-benchmark,3297-24.html#BOM_comments

At the regular price of 140 it's take it or leave it but the gains aren't too shabby considering it's 10 bucks less.
Alternatively, wait for the 650 to get on deal and grab that.

Certain models can make it up around 120hz, need a specific kind of video card though I think. Not sure haven't done all the required research needed before investing in one of these.

I suppose I'll hold out for an Nvidia card to go on sale.

Pretty sure my 4870 goes up to 120hz, I've been using that for years.

Related post I found.

From what I've seen, unless you get a (ridiculously expensive) Apple one, you can get it to work (though often not in UEFI) by changing the hardware descriptor to that of an apple card (and it'll just look like a faster version of it to the OS), but this could involve flashing the GPU BIOS.

Maybe I'll check ebay for apple cards, or continue to game on my mac pro running a real OS.
