The Filco Majestouch-2 tenkeyless keyboard is one of the more popular around here. If you like the yellow caps, and would like a tenkeyless board (meaning it doesn't have a number pad), then yes, it would be good.

I would like one of these.  Sadly the only Australian distributor decided that the product was not available after I had one on back order for nearly 2 months :(

Now the only places I can get one is overseas, which adds abother $50 to $70 shipping costs on top of the keyboard.

It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

They're awesome. I have a few myself. For the most part, Filco is the reference keyboard on here when making a comparison.

These are pretty much the gold standard around here in terms of regularly available non-custom keyboards.  Very sturdy and wonderful to type on.

Yeah they are consider the best mechanical keyboards before you go into Topre or custom keyboards ($300 Price Range).

At geekhack the comparison usually goes something like this:

BAD >>> Razer Blackwidow, Corsair K60/K90, CM Storm QuickFire Pro >>> Logitech G710, SteelSeries 6GV2 >>> Older Das Keyboard, Leopold, CM Storm QuickFire Rapid, WASD Keyboards, Ducky >>> Filco >>> GOOD

EDIT:  Fixed.

BAD >>> Razer Blackwidow >>> Corsair M60/M90 >>> Logitech G710, SteelSeries 6GV2 >>> Older Das Keyboard, Leopold, CM Storm QuickFire Rapid, WASD Keyboards, Ducky >>> Filco >>> GOOD

FYI, Corsair M60/M90 are mice. I have the M60 mouse and it's a great mouse. Corsair's mechanical keyboard is K60/K90. I also consider corsair's keyboards even lower than razer's black widow. They have firmware problems that is not fixable, and corsair recognizes this too. That's pretty unacceptable to have this many complaints and still keep the product on the shelf to be sold to n00bs that don't know of the problem yet.

M series = mouse
K series = keyboard

And buckling springs, which warrant their own post rather than just editing the previous one :)

No, they're rubbish. Using one risks explosions and cancer of the fingers.. If you send it to me, I'll dispose of it for you safely.

LOL oh yeah I actually know about that but I typed that list quickly so I guess I didn't go over to check, I've fixed it now  :P

^ Youse are missing out Topre ;)

I didn't write topre because I assume he's looking for a starting board lol.  But I guess I could've put in buckling spring but didn't want to confuse him with too much info at once.

You've completely forgotten about Buckling spring, not to mention ALPS.

Like: bad to good: off-brand BS < Model m < model F = beam spring

@OP: To echo the others, the filco is quite well regarded here, though there certainly are cheaper alternatives.

lol I figure he's new so he can start with the more common cherry mx stuff.  Because if I include buckling spring and ALPS and topre then it will get pretty complicated  :P

lol but a lot of people do start with Topre.  BS keyboards are generally for the purists.  Don't know about ALPS.  But there is certainly more choice with Cherry MX keyboards.
