ATI 7000 series cards now shipping with full retail games
« on: Mon, 22 October 2012, 15:04:10 »
the 77xx cards are getting Far Cry 3

The 78xx cards are getting FC3 and Sleeping Dogs

The 79xx cards are getting FC3, SD, and Hitman: Absolution. Not a bad package for the 7950, a 300 dollar card.

Plus, the 12.11 drivers gave a very solid performance bump to the 7000 series cards (Finally)

performance chart here.

I think my 4870 is going to be on the market very, very soon.

Ugggggh that 690! AMD is flat-lining and has been since their Phenom II processors came out.
40% layout, anyone?

you're comparing a 1000 dollar dual GPU card to a 300 or 430 (7950, 7970, respectively) Single GPU card.

If you want to get technical, with this update, the 7970 is once again the fastest single GPU card on the market for gaming needs.  Add that to the fact that it doesn't have issues with double floating point calculations and rendering, and I don't see AMD/ATI as anywhere near "flatlining".

As far as i'm concerned, when they're offering the 7970 for less money(7970 @~430-450 vs 680 @ $470 and up), with better value games (ATI's 3 new 50 dollar games vs NVIDIA's 2 new 50 dollar games, all solid titles.) and with the latest drivers, even if not claiming the throne, then let's say trading blows, I see this as a great deal, even at the regular price.

Besides, i'm not sure what comparing AMD vs Intel has to do with Red vs Green GPU comparisons.

Yes indeed, and where did I mention price or Intel? 6000 series performed worse than or on par with the 5000 on average and nVidia's prices have been dropping even as their performance parts do better. I wholly agree AMD parts are better per dollar spent, but if you're looking at top of the line, cost gets fuzzy: at what point do you say "this is enough power," when you're trying to get the very best?

If you're looking for precision in your various calculations, you're expected to buy a workstation card anyways, btw...

Great deal, didn't mean to downplay the thread so much!

It's all good, sorry for overreacting, I thought you were just threadcrapping.
