Mechanical vs Membrane typing speeds

Hi,

Is there any hard facts that mechanical keyboards improve typing speeds?

Also which mechanical switch is most similar to membrane? I would of thought blue?

I'm not sure youu could say there are any "hard fact" behind it, what ever you're most comfortable with will always improve your personal typing speed.

You can't really compare mechanical and membrane either. It's hard to explain unless you've experienced each, but they're completely different beasts.

I will say that mechaniucal keyboard helps. Because it's much easier to register a keystroke and to move from one key to  another.

It helped quite a lot for me.  I type considerably faster on topre, brown, than logitech g15 and the like.  My slowest is on imac apple keyboards with little/no tactile feedback.

There are some good membranes out there nowadays.

But before you try all of those you need to try a mechanical keyboard.

Going back to a (new) membrane, not worn, they are not too bad once you have used a mechanical.

I feel happier and more confident typing on a mechanical board, so even if my typing speed is not higher on mechanical, at least I feel better about it.

I've done several WPM tests with different types of keyboards because I've been curious about just that. I score similarly with my work keyboard, a HP membrane OEM board, and my daskeyboard 3 pro with Cherry MX Blues. When I tested myself on my Ducky 9087G2 Pro with Reds, I got a significantly higher score. I'm probably more familiar now with my Ducky than with anything else hence the speed difference. I'd say I'm ready to chalk it up to comfort; the only thing is, I always feel more comfortable behind a proper mechanical keyboard.

Definitely can type faster with my Topre (over my rubber dome keyboard). The very, very little wobble in its keys makes it much easier for me to type more accurately, since I don't have to worry about hitting the keys at certain angles to get the key to go down (vs. Cherry switches, which has a little more wobble, and therefore makes me think more about hitting the keys correctly). Which, of course, helps me with my WPM.

I will say, though, that I could achieve very, very fast peak speeds with a Cherry MX Brown board that I tried out for a couple of days. But, again, I made more mistakes on the keyboard, than I did with the Topre, which led me to, I think, a lower average WPM.

Typing speeds don't come into it for me, but I can touch type better on a rubberdome than I can with my Poker with blues. To be fair though, it is a very old and heavy rubberdome.

Mind you, I've come to the conclusion that I need a much heavier switch than blues.

true, some people dont like mechanical and prefer the rubberdome intead. Afaik a typist in india i know uses a rubberdome and scissors switch (laptopkeyboard) can easily beat a mechanical user.

well thats not the fact, that mechanical do make ur faster. It just that your brain will stimulate how fast u type.
