What's the difference between Plate-Mount and PCB Mount switches?

I often see individual switches for sale (separate from the keyboard, I mean) that will identify as either plate mount or PCB mount switches. I understand the difference between a board that is plate mounted and PCB mounted, but what makes the actual switches suited for their respective purposes?

On the bottom of a PCB mount switch there are 2 additional plastic pins primarily for rotational stability, but they do a good job holding onto the PCB since they are friction fit.  Cut them off and you suddenly have a plate mount switch.
