Dvorak different profiles
« on: Tue, 05 March 2013, 13:41:14 »
Hi GH. Today i decided to make a step and start learning Dvorak, as i am not very experienced with touchtyping, i might as well start learning it the right way.

i wanteed to switch keycaps on my Razer ultimate and realised that the keys on the QWERTZ and ASDF rows havea different profile than the ones on the XYCV ( last ) row.

the question i have is : how do i do if i want to buy custom sets for Dvorak. all my keys that aren't on the good row will look weird ?

because i was interessed in buying a custom set for the Leopold that Duq is going to send me, but if i can't have a set that fits with the dvorak layout, i don't want to spend money in it.

thanks for your future answers.

Did you get in on the DSA Retro set GB? All of those caps are the same height, so moving them how you see fit would work perfectly with them.

It's not, but keep an eye on it starting now. There are a couple unpaid invoices, and they're planning on opening them up to other people to take the place of them. Your chance is now. Read the thread and what's available so you'll know what you want to choose from once that happens.

Alternately you may ask imsto if they have any more Dvorak set from my dyesub buy.

They would have to be, due to the changes in keys to different profiles. That dyesub set lysol mentioned was made particularly for Dvorak. If you're asking whether they're made on a daily basis at anywhere in particular, I would think to say no. You could always make a custom set at WASDkeyboards.

I think my buy was only the second time they were made on sculpted keycaps specifically in Dvorak layout. There was an add on white/grey for I think it was round 1 or 2. I am not aware of anything else, but I don't use it either.

I think he means he doesn't use the layout, not the cap set, thus isn't all to familiar with every option available.

I'm a big fan of Dvorak sets. My first mechanical keyboard I bought was a custom one from WASDkeyboards with dvorak sets. Before then I had been using a model M and a unicomp which allow for arbitrary profiles. Now I have a PBT set (Two actually) of dyesub dvorak keycaps  in the mail and an access-IS keyboard with tipro "flat" keycaps arranged in the Dvorak layout. I don't mind flat profile (on flat keyboards, it is by far the best) so I have a set of TG3 BL82 keycaps which are in Dvorak profile on my BL82. I'm eventually going to put my G84-4101's PBT keycaps in Dvorak, and I believe I've already made my microswitch Keyboard (1977 hall effect) in Dvorak.

Your options mainly are:
1. flat profile
2. Custom sets
3. Keyboard with curved backplate
