How to Remove Logos from QuickFire Rapid
« on: Sun, 17 March 2013, 17:00:16 »
I just picked up a QFR with blues yesterday and I'm already a TKL convert!

I use a full-sized otaku Leopold with browns at work (i.e., network admin tasks) and I was using a QuickFire Pro with browns at home.

I'd like to get a Noppoo Choc (with reds, maybe?) at some point in the near future for the aesthetic, but for now I'm looking at modifying the QFR, which attracted my attention since it's supposedly comparable to a Filco for less than half of the price.

I'm looking to replace all of the keys with a custom set (is WASD the best resource for this?), but in the meantime I'd like to know if there is a way to remove the conspicuous branding from the QFR without altering the underlying finish.

Any suggestions?

first, welcome to GH !
for your question, there are sone threads about people removing the coating from the case or using various methods for unbranding the case. look around in the DIY part of forum, i'll get you a link if i find a thread.

That's what I'm considering doing... though I hardly use my QFR reds anymore.

There is no way to remove the logos without going through the rubber coating that is on top. Best bet if you don't want to sand it and paint is to get from the CM store that Flip linked.

Oh, I wasn't aware of this. I certainly wouldn't mind having the black panel...then it would make sense to have gray keys  :D

What is your primary board now?

Edit: And how difficult is it to remove the top panel? I see that it includes a removal tool, but I've never done this before.

My main boards (I tend to switch a lot) are currently HHKB, Topre 87u 55g, Ducky green alps, and Unicomp 101

I have to say for the geekiest, most oldschool sound and feel, I always bust out the Ducky green alps. For gaming I prefer the 55g Topres.

Edit;
Should involve only a screwdriver for top cover removal.

To remove the cover, you need a screwdriver, and something small and flat like a butter knife to pop out the tabs along the front and back. There will indentations showing where the tabs are if you look hard enough.

Hmm, so there isn't any chemical that could do the job? I'm not terribly concerned about the "feel" of the areas with branding; I'd simply like for them to look unaltered following any procedures to remove the logos.

I mean, if I'm considering replacing the entire top plate, then I don't have to be too cautious with the current one...
