Misalignment + sort of noise on my newly arrived white HHKB
« on: Tue, 22 July 2014, 10:23:11 »
I already own the black HHKB Pro 2, my blank white HHKB Pro 2 just arrived today and I noticed three things.

1. For some reason, the white one is much quieter, especially the spacebar, despite the fact both being rev A2 (Black manufactured 2013-10, new white one 2014-04).
2. On the white one, two keys seem to misaligned in the sense that they are a little bit tilted / skewed to the right such that the appear to be approximately 0.5mm higher in the upper left side compared to the key left to it. Is this normal? Is this something you get used to or will eventually my OCD win? I have it on my 'i', '=', and '/' keys. The rest are flawless.
3. Three keys, 'k', 'l', and ';' sound like there is some plastic wrap under them. I verified with my 'old' black HHKB and that one also makes that sound, but less pronounced. Is this normal? Will this perhaps go away when it has worn in?

Sounds like some sort of issue with switches.... I would send it back and see if you can get a new one. That is unacceptable for a 260USD keyboard
My collection:

GON HHKB (62g MX Clears), CM Storm Novatouch, Poker II (MX Blues)  ., HHKB 2 Pro ., Cherry G80 (MX Blacks), JD40 (In the mail as soon as Margo builds it!), Plank Keyboard (parts in the mail!)

I just swapped some keys around and it seems that it's the mold of the keys, so that seems to be fairly ok. At least it does not seem to be the switch.

Also.. I don't know why. But my white version feels waaaay more smoother than my black version. I know that others on this forum have noted that the white version is more 'forgiving', but to me, the difference feels like light and day.

At this moment, I'm mostly concerned about the sound I described, like there is a plastic wrap under some keys like I noted. Any ideas?

Btw any ideas why the white version feels butter smooth compared to my black version?

I only have the white version, so I do not know of this difference you speak of, but my first guess would be a difference in the manufacturing. I do not know if there is any plastic under there or not, but it is easy enough to find out. You can pull the key caps and look. If the sound persists with the caps off, you can remove the top plate by unscrewwing the 4(?) screws directly on the plate.
