IBM Wheelwriter and/or keys
« on: Fri, 22 March 2013, 13:37:29 »
I found this bad boy today, and was going to walk on by, but I had to press a key. I felt the unmistakeable buckling spring, and decided to buy it.

These are solid 1-piece IBM keys with almost no wear. The secondary legends are a beautiful green, and are typewriter markings rather than computer keyboard.

If anyone is interested in buying the entire unit, I will entertain selling it as a whole, or just the key set. I bought it with the intention of harvesting the keys and using them myself in a retro setup, but make me an offer I can't refuse, and it is yours.

It is a nice old piece and would probably work with a computer through a parallel port, although I am not exactly sure how.

I like keyboards and case modding.  Everything about a computer should be silent -- except the KEYBOARD!

I live near Atlanta. Domestic US, I estimate the shipping at maybe $25-30 East, $30-35 West. If I get any serious interest, I could put it in a box and take it to the UPS store to see for sure.

I will need $15 for it on top of actual shipping cost. Or sell the keys at $18 shipped US.

Final bump before I strip the keys and parts and toss the carcass.

My big concern is whether I want to crack it all apart for the springs. They will be fresh and good, I'm sure, but this thing will be hard to get open.

Somebody buy it, and save me the trouble.

I forgot about this.  Does it work as a typewriter?

:( :( :( It hurts to think this beauty is going to be (or already has been) torn down. They are great typewriters and can be converted into teletypes with enough patience.  :( :( :(

hey fohat

sorry I missed your reply in this post. But nothing lost - at least for me. I live outside the USA, so I'm guessing shipping will be $100 or something scary. In any case I'm not technically competent so wouldn't have beenable to change the parallel cable for whatever cable that is needed.
