Need help find 104 PBT keycaps for Max Keyboard X9
« on: Mon, 06 May 2013, 18:29:52 »
Where can I buy 104 PBT keycaps for Max Keyboard X9. I tried the standard Cherry/Filco 104 PBT, the 7 keys next to the space bar are NOT compatible:

I believe the Cooler master trigger is the same layout.

the bottom row should be 1.5/1/1.5/6/1.5/1/1/1.5

so you could buy a standard set from wasd and buy the bottom row with single keys, but you will have to use the stock spacebar.

(not 100% sure so don't quote me on this)

Checked. I dont think they have it either.

Also, they charge $49.99 for 104 ABS, which is very clazy.

Unfortunately keyboards like the Max have bizarre bottom row layouts that make replacement all but impossible with available PBT options... My Deck is the same way, but an even crazier 1.25/1.25/1.25/6.25/1/1/1/1/1.25. Leopolds and Choc Minis have similar issues.

I've stuck with the stock backlit ABS with the Max, but you could do a swap of everything except the bottom row.

Basically your best choice is Cherry or BSP keycaps as they are the most easy to find PBT with 1.5 modifiers size. Cherry also have 6x spacebar, but I am still not sure what iOne uses for stem spacing on theirs and how much it will match up. Can always epoxy in some other stem if you are inclined. Like this 3000, have nice thick PBT keycap. Then you could get the 1x Win, menu and 6x space from a 7000 like this, look for cheaper price on one though, I did not look much just giving example.

You will need to remove the 3 original stems using a dremel or something and epoxy in 3 new stems in the cherry spacebar to get it to fit. Its a real pain in the ass an takes multiple steps to get it right because if you just remove all 3 stems right away you would have nothing to square the keycap off of when adding stems. I did this on my wireless xarmor which has the same oem as that max iOne.

Thanks for all the reply above. I really appreciate it!!

Well, I think I will just sell this Max Keyboard (ione) and get a Ducky or Filco, which comes with more standard keys :)

I also have a Rosewill Red which I love. And the 2 sets 104 PBT fits well. Only thing I am worried about Rosewill is the well known fragile usb port.
