Cherry+Alps stabilizers in the same board.
« on: Wed, 19 June 2013, 15:36:15 »
So, I cleaned the caps of my Alps keyboard (which is part of a "portable computer", pics here ).
And I noticed that the Enter key had Alps stabilizers (well, I guess they're kind of standard on Alps keyboard ?) and the Space key had cherry stabilizers (but is on an Alps switch).

Is that an usual thing ? What could be the point of such mixup ?

I believe that space bar solution has been proposed for some currently being designed custom alps boards!

I would say they did that for cost and possibly part availability/cost.

Yep. I have a keyboard where the "big-ass" backwards L-shaped Enter key has Alps stabilisers for the horizontal and Cherry (costar-style) stabilisers for the vertical.
The Alps stabiliser bars need to stretch longer - so maybe the point is that Cherry stabiliser bars use less space...

Oh, okay then, that make sense. I didn't really think in terms of lengths. Thanks.
Must be a pain in the arse to replace that spacebar tho !
