Did it come with a black front plate?

If 3 months ago is recent, it came with a black plate. Red switches come with the red plate only afaik.

Nvm, carter responded here http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=39519.msg775295#msg775295 saying that all newer ones have black casings.  So I guess my post doesn't help since I do not know their inventory status.  Black covers are available at $10+shipping though if it bothers you that much.

plate and covers are two diff things.  I assume by "front plate" he means the cover.

Yes,

Now all QFR come with black top covers. At this point, we have flushed out all inventory of Black & Brown switch in most tier 1 (NE & Amazon)

As for blue switch rapids: We still have a little bit of QTY in a couple of Amazon's warehouses that have silver/grey covers but that should be flushed out this week. So as for blue switch, its a little bit of a gamble for which top cover you will get but that should be all cleared up by EOW

Is that a hint at another sale/rebate coming up?

Doubtful, we did that big promotion on NE specifically to clear out all the grey inventory. Due to switch shortage most of our promotions have switched to our mice for the time being.
