IBM M Tenkeyless on eBay I picked up... for $59
« on: Sun, 11 August 2013, 22:18:54 »
I couldn't believe this has a Buy Now price of $59.

I think I did pretty well on this auction.  I'll need to do some dusting and a thorough recleaning, but it looks like it's in excellent shape for the price.

It's the one keyboard I thought I'd never get because I just wasn't going to pay the $250-280 I'd seen them sell for.

Great finds on these are usually the ones that don't get posted in the "Great Finds" section. lol. I was able to get mine a year ago for $100. Not too bad.

I wasn't aware of that project!  Great idea!!

I might have to submit my two Model M to it, now that I know they both work.

Yeah I'm lucky the shipping wasn't some outrageous price like $200 because I didn't even bother looking.  I figured someone else was probably seconds away from doing the same.  :D

The seller did not include the model number anywhere in the ad -- nobody's automated searches would have been triggered.

Got the keyboard in and it's in great condition - but needing a good cleaning as I assumed it would.  Question, though...  are all the springs the same weighting?  It's easier if I don't have to worry about what springs go with which area of keys.

AFAIK yes they are all the same.  I have not heard anything different, although I welcome to be corrected if this is not the case.

Why are you worrying about the springs?  Unless you're doing a bolt mod, the springs stay put.  They shouldn't enter into the question when you're just cleaning.

I thought the springs were "loose."  My Unicomp is so clean that I've not had to remove the keys, so this will be my first cleaning of a buckling spring.  I thought I had seen a Youtube video with some guy cleaning one and one of the springs went launching.  Maybe I'm thinking of something else.  Didn't know they were secured.

An excellent board!  It might be lighting, but it looks much cleaner than my Model Ms, or maybe you just cleaned your more thoroughly.
