Filco USB Cable Replacements
« on: Mon, 12 August 2013, 10:49:19 »
Anyone know where I can find some Filco Cable replacements in the US?  The cable on my Filco TKL Camo just fizzled out and what's funny is that it's the only Filco Keyboard I know to have a braided cable.  Any options out there for me?

think filco just uses a mini-usb to usb cable, so just search for those on ebay or something.

Waiting for my plane to arrive. Then I'll wait some more to board it.
This particular cable is green to match the case and also not detachable but internally attached with filco's specific cable.

But you can buy a custom replacement from a couple different cable vendors on here.

They don't have a detachable cable, the cable plugs into a header on the PCB. You can order Filco cables from TJ, Pexon, and the other cables makers on GH.  I'm not sure where you can get the stock cables from Filco though.

Yeah, there are people on these forums that sell excellent custom USB cables for filco. All you have to do is open up the case and pop them in. Though they may come without stress relief in which case a zip-tie does an adequate job. I can vouch for Pexon's cables, they are excellent, but he is in the UK and you might be better off going for some US options (saves shipping cost and possible VAT or customs charges).

It seems you can now also order replacement filco cables directly from the keyboard company. Judging by the look and description it almost seems like they are Pexon's cables, but I am not 100% sure about that. If you want a plain black cable (with stress relief) you can ask in the classifieds section. I think there are a lot of people who replaced their stock cable and now have a spare one.

Good luck.

Yeah, I was so eager for a fix that I googled for a Filco Replacement Cable (Pexon was one of the first results); and I pulled the trigger on a Detachable Filco USB Bundle right then and there.  So for anyone who's wondering how much it costs for the detachable usb cable bundle and shipping to the US, it's $47.83.

I already opened up my Filco and pulled out the cable and it looks like I can salvage it.  The malfunctioning part was occurring near the pin header, so when I have some time I'm going to cut up the faulty area and rejoin the wire.  Luckily, I have some soldering experience (and equipment) to pull that off.  I was just impressed that they're was a professional detachable mod available for purchase (Pexon) that I figured "What the hey.  I've spent so much on keyboards that $50 seemed reasonable."

Of course, later I find out, on this forum, that TJ offers custom cables and he's in the US so I'm probably gonna use his services in the future.  His website says he backed up right now.

I do them as well.  I have some micro USB inbound and plan on make a handful of Filco cables or making it an option.
