Is there any way I could just buy clear stems? I feel like that would save me a lot of money.

If you find someone selling them. They wouldn't be much cheaper than switches though.

I wasnt expecting the switches to be that expensive for some reason. If any of you are selling just the stems, PM me - I was also thinking about trying to add LED's but I have no clue how to do it/where to buy leds. I think I am a bit in over my head on this project. I guess there is a first time for everything

Adding LEDs to a keyboard usually requires more than just soldering in some LEDs. The board has to have support for it otherwise you have to find a controller and run wires IIRC.

Also, if you want just stems then edit your original post title to reflect that.

This ^ You cannot add LEDs to a Filco without modding stuff.

How much would a controller cost that would allow me to add LED's? I have never seen one of those on sale here.

You could hook up dedicated leds by drilling holes into the pcb, putting in the led and hooking it up to a battery. Anything programmable is going to get complicated.

Honestly it isn't worth it.

Yeah the more I learn about LED's the more I realize it is a whole lot of work that I have no experience in. I guess ill just stick with doing my first switch swap+lube+sticker mod.

there was a post a while back where someone backlit their poker.  It was wired up to the usb 5v.  each led was wired in series and it looked like a bowl of spaghetti to be honest.  That was just a poker with 61 switches.  a filco tlk has 86?

Could you elaborate more on your paint job?  What paint, how many coats, etc?  I am interested, but the paint job worries me a little..  Does look ok from the picture listed though.

If you really want to sell it, most people look for close-ups when it comes to custom paint jobs. I'm pretty sure if you want to sell something you painted yourself people want to be assured that it was done right. Even most potato cameras can give close-ups if you have adequate lighting.

GLWS!

Alright, added a bunch of new pictures. The paint job was just a few very thin layers of plastic spray paint, I don't remember the exact kind ^_^. I painted it a few months back and it does not appear to be peeling or fading yet so I would say its good to go :D
