Adding backlight to Ducky 9008G2?
« on: Wed, 04 September 2013, 22:19:21 »
Does anyone have any experience adding backlighting to a Ducky 9008G2? The LED holes are there, though they are filled with solder. The LED matrix is there. But I notice there are many places on the board marked for resistors and transistors that are missing. There is also an empty space where it looks like an IC is supposed to go. At first I was thinking that if I could figure out what value the missing components are supposed to be, that I could add them in and make it work. But then I noticed the missing IC which I am guessing would have to be programmed? I assume this is the part that controls the brightness settings, etc.

I realize its a lot of work, and I don't need to be convinced that backlighting is not worth it, etc. I just want to know if anyone thinks it could be done or if anyone has tried it? It seems like an interesting project. The soldering I think I can handle. But figuring out the value of the components that are missing is where I would have some difficulty I think. I am thinking this project will be pretty much impossible because of the missing IC chip... but I am still looking forward to resurrecting this Ducky. It's a bare PCB with plate and case with at least one badly lifted trace for the caps lock led, but that looks easy enough to fix. Thanks for any input.

The main area where most of the parts are missing:
I stay busy with work and family these days, but I'm still around, lurking.
