My Cooler Master Quickfire XT(MX Red) has come in.
« on: Fri, 13 December 2013, 13:13:59 »
Boy, she's a beauty, too. Feels so smooth and reliable. I liked my Newegg one, but this just feels so much better. It even sounds different. I dunno.  It's got such an incredible texture, I really love it, 5 minutes in lol.

I tried out it's "Command rate" adjuster, a feature it touts...wow, basically, lol, is all I can say. I pressed g once, released instantly...and I had over 30 g's typed out. I can't think of situations where I'd find this all that useful...I'll have to think. Sure I did 8x, but I didn't expect that lol. Damn.

Overall, if you're looking for Filco quality, at an affordable price, the CM QF XT is a great buy, and is on sale at Newegg right now. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823129020&nm_mc=OTC-pr1c3grabb3r&cm_mmc=OTC-pr1c3grabb3r-_-Keyboards-_-Cooler+Master-_-23129020

Just really. So much better, my fingers even feel in better shape, mere minutes off that Dome I've had to use for a few months now. It uses a Full Size USB connection - feels so secure...I love it. Most of the other ones I tried out with mini USB seemed flimsy, and your connector could slip out with ease. However, with this, it's snug in there and you have to apply actual force to remove it, rather than just let it slide out as you pick up the keyboard. It just oozes quality.

For that kind of price CM has it for, for full size, you just can't beat it. I know it's the same OEM Newegg uses, Costar, but man, it just feels so much mroe solid. It has an almost velvet like texture to the keyboard itself, the keys feel almost Silky, yet my fingers aren't slipping off, rather sliding off into a natural typing experience.

Wonderful purchase, anyone in the market for a MK, full size or TKL(CM has both), should definitely look at CM as a serious buy. It sounds gimmicky, I know "Cooler Master? MK?" But trust me - they match up there with Ducky / Filco.

*Update 1

So I just did the command rate to 2x, from the default of 1x, and I can type pretty normally, on it, and I am infact making less spelling errors. It's interesting that it works, and everything just feels so much faster. I may try 4x. 8x is literally impossible, unless my fingers moved hyper-sonic, but I am actually really enjoying this 2x repeat rate.

*Update 2, WPM.

Your score: 468 CPM (that is 94 WPM) (7 Mistakes)

In reality, you typed 510 CPM, but you made 7 mistakes (out of 92 words), which were not counted in the corrected CPM score. (First try)

Overall pretty good, and I imagine if I used proper typing posture, I could probably do more, but I feel good about that, mistakes and all. On my old Dome, I was going like 68-70, maybe I've sped up lately, I don't know, but even my old Mech I never broke 80. Maybe it's the repeat rate? I don't really know if that affects it, or if I just feel more confident on this board? ah well.

Another test:

Good to hear!

Although this might have been better in the reviews section.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Didn't really think of the review section, but yeah, the mods can move it if they want.  I just saw this section for about Keyboards, so I wanted to talk about it.

Man, I can't get over how smooth it is. My Rosewill was also Co-star, it was also cherry MX red.  And yet...this just feels...smooth, the action, it's hard to describe, but I am sure the people here at Geekhack understand what I mean. The other ones always felt low resistence, of course, but they felt like they just fell, cheaply. These feel smooth, and I don't bottom out as much. My Rosewill I was always bottoming out and my spacebace doesn't squeak like my Rosewill did out of the box.  Overall, I am just super impressed, and I am eyeing some red key caps. My cousin and I actually were looking at the Zinc Keycaps, but man, 67$! Yikes, plus, I imagine, uncomfortable to type on after awhile, eh?

I have a CM Case, and CM fans, and when I heard CM made MK's, I was like "But will they just be crappy stuff? CM isn't known for anything but their cases really." And yet, somehow, CM comes across, at an amazing value, with reviews like my own, talking about how it matches a 150$ MJ2 or a Ducky Shine 3 for much, much less, because of CM's ability for mass production / sales in the US. CM's MK's are not "cheap" , nor are they "mid-range", or hell, they aren't even a "Good value for the price", they are INCREDIBLE for the price. They even have a backlit version for around 99$ to match the DS3 Backlit one, and Costar as well, so the quality is there.

I also find myself oddly liking the fontt. I was worried, because of CM's choice, that i might not like like it, but I do, it's very easy to read.  Also, the Media keys with the FN modifier key actually work WAY better than I expected. I thought it'd be awkward, rather than a dedicated button, but it actually works out -amazingly- well in games for something like Foobar. Feels natural, too.

Overall, if you are in the market for a MK, Red or not, you cannot go wrong with CM's lineup, from TKL to Full Size.  Especially with the sales around right now.

I got this for 78$ on Newegg, using a coupon code, of course, it went on sale for 75$   just a few days later, and Newegg says since it's a rebate(That I am not eligable for), they won't refund me the difference.

However, these can be had right now, for 75$ + 2$ shipping, , so around the same price, and if the master pass code is still active? A little under 70$, including Shipping. Less than half the price of a Filco MJ2, for the same quality. Insanity.

I love reds for how smooth they are. They are pretty amazing. Like typing on a cloud of boobs.
