[Massdrop] Raspberry Pi Starter Kits
« on: Tue, 29 October 2013, 19:31:25 »
I just recently heard about these things, and it seems massdrop has a kit up for sale. I'm not sure if I'd be too interested myself but I'm sure some of you guys might be.

However, after reading everything, I'm not going to get it. It includes too many extra items that I don't need like ethernet cables.

And its only a 9% discount, not that much.

What are you looking for anyway? Just the pi?

Yea, just a pi, power supply, and maybe one or two other accessories. Already got a SD card, wish they had a version of this drop without the breadboard and the other stuff designed for modders and just had the essentials+some other stuff people frequently use such as a powered USB hub

This really isn't a great deal, even if they hit the cheapest price. You have the $35 pi, a $11 case, an 4gb SD card (which can be had for 4 bucks from a few different stores, even brick and mortars), a power supply (something that can be had for about $5), ethernet cable (a buck or so), a TTL USB cable (another thing can be had for under $5), breadboard ($4-5), about $3 worth of jumpers and components, and the Cobbler kit ($7.95). That totals up to about $77. Mass drop wants $95 at the cheapest, plus shipping. Their drop only ends up being cheaper if you're used to inflated prices for cables from Best Buy and the like.
