I would recommend this amp to anyone who wants to drive their headphones from a low noise source.  I'll have more info about it in my review, but at 109.99 this item is a steal.

Special thanks to Krav for lending me his.  I know I'm in for one.

I have a TotalBithead powering a HD595. Is this worth the upgrade?

Also saw Massdrop with the HD600... they really are trying to bankrupt me.

this is an upgrade.  this dac/amp has a great many functions you won't find with something like the TotalBithead.

The aux I/O can be used with headphones plugged into the amp of the Aune T1.  This means you can plug in another amp and have two amps playing the same thing! great if you have a friend over and another set of headphones.

+1 this sucker is a pretty great little device for those of us on a budget.

I had a little extra fun and bought some extra tubes on e-bay too.

this is an awesome tube/dac. highly recommended at this price point. never used the stock electro harmonix 6922 tube since i picked up an amperex orange globe 6dj8. sounded fantastic with my grados.

Stupid question, but what exactly do you do with those?  Plug them into your computer and amplify sound volume through them instead of your speaker knob / windows volume?

It's a DAC and an amp. Simply put, the DAC acts as a much better soundcard and the amp acts to allow the DAC to output sound to your headphones, as the DAC usually lacks enough current on the output. Said amp will also separate the load of the headphones from the circuitry of the DAC, which is important for load balancing (impedance matching) and proper grounding.

It also has a tube in it because lots of people prefer them.

If you're interested in learning, I can point you to some literature. Rane has some good stuff  http://www.rane.com/library.html#gpm1_2
