[giveaway] Bro bot V1
« on: Tue, 24 December 2013, 17:47:14 »

I'm going to give this one away to someone with no bros and that has never had a bro. I will also leave it up to the winner if they want me to glue it or send them the two pieces to assemble it themselves.

Post your favorite story of hanging out with your real life bros from any time in your life and my wife and I will pick our favorite. If you want to post a cool story but already have a bro then just say not for entry before you begin story time.

I will stop taking entries at 11:59 pm EST Friday December 27th

Good luck!

I think the favorite bro story was me hanging out with the bros for a sleepover. We played COD for a couple hours, then shot each other with nerf guns, then played more cod, then watched a movie, then played more cod. Fun ****.

So back in the days of Diablo 2 and counter strike. I used to pretty much live at my local Internet cafe. Didn't have my own pc capable of gaming and back then playing online wasn't an option so it was all about LAN. Became really great friends with all the guys that worked there and all the regulars, used to have the best time just chilling after the cafe closed and gaming late into the night with all of them. Made some great friends and still keep in touch with the guy who used to work there despite having moved far away.

Hung out with dorkvader a few days ago. We had a nice mix of keyboards. He had a bunch of old spring keyboards (and skeldon phantom), which went nicely with my modern mechs. We discussed a bunch of keyboard related things, from the construction of a mystery cherry logo keycap that I have to the weight of the case of the beamspring to spacebar stabilizers. I got to type on hall effect, Model M, Model F and beamspring for the first time, and he got to type on an HHKB for the first time. I learned a whole bunch from him, and I hope that he learned something from me. I never knew that kishsavers were so heavy. I had a great time.

Neva had a bot and don't think v1's will be available ever again, so here's a story that happened somewhat recently and that I like.

I'm going to lay down some back story and some details. As some know, I go to a boarding school, so about seventy percent of the school lives on campus, while the other thirty live close enough to campus that they can just be driven or drive to school everyday like most people in america. I am one of those thirty percenter's, and I live about ten minutes away. 'Day' Students live at home and drive over at 7 am and drive home at around 8 pm, while 'Boarders' live on campus and board at school. So as a Day student (and being 16+), I can legally drive and use a car. Boarders cannot have their own cars on campus, and need written permission from faculty to be able to ride in them. Punishment upon being caught as a boarder in a car without permission means probation, which just means you have no chances left before being kicked out.

So, one day of last spring (right about when I joined Geekhack), I was doing a routine wawa trip with 3 of my friends, 2 day students and 1 Boarder. of course, the boarder didn't have permission, so we were being quick in wawa and heading back to school. As we arrive back on campus, I let the two day students out at the spot where they wanted to get out. So then with the boarder and myself in the car, I drive a little bit more to where the parking lot was farther down campus. As i'm rolling into the lot, the Dean of Students who is in charge of car rules and car permission comes out of the building closest to my slowing moving car with the headmaster by his side.

I literally felt pain from shock rush through my upper body as I thought my close friend (and I; day students get probation for being caught driving boarders without permission as well) were absolutely ****ed. my friend had the front door open but was not out of my car. The Dean saw us, saw my car, and I **** you not, the forty year old man started sprinting towards my car. (that spring was an absolute manslaughter for the faculty, that caught countless kids without permission so he probably thought this was a routine catch) We were both paralyzed in  fear and shock and somehow (thank god), I snapped out of it and so did my friend who closed the door. I slammed on the gas pedal and tore out of the lot as the dean was fumbling with his keys to get into his car. Literally as I tore down a hill on campus at 45 mph, I saw in my rear view mirror the dean's jeep coming right for us.

I take a right at the bottom of the hill and absolutely floor it and hit maybe 55 mph on a bumpy gravel road, which of course passes the tennis courts packed with players and leaves a dust trail of great size. As I make another right around a corner and out of view, My buddy opens his door, slams it as he gets out and sprints up the hill and into his Dorm. I then take off with the dean's car now in my rear view again. I turn left onto a road just off of campus and speed away going maybe 20 or 30 over the limit (and thus get away).

I can easily say that was the time in my life were my heart almost jumped out of my chest...I was literally a beating drum. Thank god the dean didn't recognize it was us, and from then on didn't recognize my Honda. At that point I had just gotten the car, so it was very new and he just didn't recognize it at any point after. It's all really funny because I'm really friendly with the guy...and here we were having this wild goose chase through center campus...

That was a 'bro' story from this year. Routine Wawa hoagie shuttle turned into a near nightmare and shocking experience...

I'm really bored right now so that's why I decided to enter and remember the details  :blank:

I have no Bros, and thus no Bro stories :(
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I Apologize for it being long, but it's worth the read (:

Haha this is awesome, thanks for running this purely because, doesn't matter who gets it you're giving a chance to someone to own an awesome piece :P Never had one myself and looks so cool!,

My story is actually something that happened about 2 years ago, this is probably the best moment I've ever had within a friendship haha. So to start it off, I live in a fairly small town/village called Torpoint.

We have bugger all in terms of important shops, 2 supermarkets although smaller versions and too many pubs. I had Autism which as some may or may not know is a social/learning disability, when I moved in to my town I had only ever made one friend through my parents, which was my parents, best friends. son.  Me and him would hang out all the time playing games like, Dawn of War: Dark Crusade, League of Legends, Call of Duty 1. He got me in to gaming and to me he was my brother.

Now he ended up working in one of our local pubs called "The Rowing Club", unfortunately a lot of stupid people drank here and the atmosphere wasn't always the best :P, due to poor management the place ended up having to close and be sold and is was heavily in debt. Now, my friend found out that they were closing and that he was losing his job, the day before they actually closed. They then told him he had to work that day, so he turns up and starts his normal shift, and I turn up an hour before he finishes. Bare in mind we knew that everything had to go, so we started passing out drinks for free to trusted locals that have been loyal members etc and have always been polite. Now, I felt bad for him because I knew that this was a job he dropped from Uni for and he was going to take some time to get something new, as soon as that last minute ticked and he finished his shift, we both started drinking.

Now I **** you not the amount we drank is genuine haha, over a space of an hour he drank a pint's worth of malibu with mixers on top of that, and half a pint of vodka, with mixers on top of that. Myself had consumed at least a pint of vodka with mixers on top of that and I was still drinking. Now being the good bro I was, I got a bit panicky when I couldn't find him anymore as he was cheery/happy and he just randomly disappeared for 30 minutes. I start checking the bathrooms because I know what he can be like drunk and I found no sign of him, I went downstairs to check as it was a multi layered building for the rowing club and I find him paralytic in a bathroom stall downstairs. Now I had never seen something so funny from him, he was stuck on a toilet, constantly spinning his head and shoulders around in a circle like he was trying to walk with no balance. We went through a good hour of trying to move him, with him kicking, punching and just acting like any drunk person except everything he did he miscalculated by miles haha.

So we call an ambulance expecting them to take him away and pump his stomach, at this point the paramedics said due to how quickly/how much we'd drunk we both should have been dead, at this point I'm still drinking, still relatively sober and laughing. I constantly make sure my friends alright but eventually the paramedic just simply said take him home. They expected us to take him in a taxi and let him be sick which we knew would cost the equivalent of $75 in fines, so we said no. From there we had to work out a way to get him home, about 10 minutes later after all the suggestions had been thrown out, the paramedic himself actually asked if we had a wheelbarrow. We get the paramedic the wheelbarrow and he goes off and get's a babies changing mat from the changing area, he lines the inside of the wheelbarrow with it and says here is your transport for your friend, this was the best solution purely because he couldn't physically walk/stand.

It was around about 1am, and I was finally starting to take him home, I had to go up 2 massive hills, go past a church (They have pastors roam at night to help civilians so there were people there lol) and neighbors hear the large noise of me going up these areas with a squeaky wheelbarrow with a drunken idiot in it. The whole way he's trying to form words and sing random **** haha. So we get to my house (I had to have someone else walk with me for safety reasons because some idiots can drive round the corners we have too fast and I didn't want to take the risk of being alone if he got hit by a car while in a wheelbarrow lol). We got him out of the wheelbarrow and carried him in to my house, now it took me an hour to get him up the hills and such as this was a medium built guy, being pushed up a hill in the wheelbarrow haha. We get him through the door and on to my sofa and I realized with it being 2 am it'd be fine to leave him with the other person. I said I'd be back in 5 minutes I just have to drop something off, so I run back down these hills with a wheelbarrow and get next to the pub just opposite the rowing club and I get stopped by the police, now looking shady because I wear dark hoodies and used to hide my face a lot, they started questioning what I was doing with a wheelbarrow at 2am in the morning lol.

I go through about a 20 minute discussion trying to explain it all to the police, they finally say okay and let me continue, I get the wheelbarrow back to the rowing club and run home, by this point it's coming up to 2:30am and I was worrying about my friend as he can't be left alone and I was unsure whether the other person could look after him while they were drunk. I get back see he's fine and he's been laid out on the sofa facing the room with a bucket next to him. As he was pretty much my only friend at the time I felt like it was my job to look after him and I sat up awake watching T.V till he woke up which was around about 8am, during that time I constantly had to rearrange him as he'd try to go into bad positions where he could choke and he liked to get forceful/resistant and he would try to kick/punch so it was quite a hard night haha. Eventually he woke up and he ran straight to the bathroom where I heard a mixture of noises, and inbetween hearing quotes like "you bastard", "how did I get home", "What the **** is this". His parents then turned up to pick him up, bare in mind he was 21 haha and they felt it safer they did so, he eventually got home and I passed out to sleep.

Never had a moment in my life where I've acted like a true brother to someone, but that night was one of the best moments I've had from a bro.

I have no Bros, and thus no Bro stories :(

That is sad rowdy :(

I need a BroBot to cheer me up!

Just shy of 9 more hours on this one. Since I'll be kind of away from the forums I'll accept late bro stories.

First of all, thanks for a great giveaway danielucf.

Our school's track is in very bad condition, and our town was collecting money to get a new one. I went out with some bros to go out and raise some money. After being out for around 2 hours, we arrived at one of the last houses. After ringing the doorbell, an Asian man came out about 30 seconds later. We gave the typical spiel except after he started speaking in (What I assume to be) Chinese. He gave some gestures and said in a strong accent, "I no understand". For the next 2 or so minutes, my bros and I acted our spiel out, laughing along the way. We seemed to do a good job because he held up a finger as in 1 second, and went inside. He soon came out with a $20 bill and said with no accent at all, "You did a very good job, you earned your money. ". It was an awesome and very memorable moment that we still talk about it today (3-4 months later).

So, it was me and my best buddy playing Baldur's Gate : Dark Alliance II. I saved up for like 20+ hours of gameplay and back then when we was playing it, that was a few days worth breaking it up. And I bought this awesome armor from what I can remember a swamp seller. It was amazing armor. Like the best I could buy. I felt so accomplished. We go into this cave and think nothing of it. Succeed going through said cave and come out the other end. Then it hit. MY ****ING ARMOR WAS GONE. We go back into the cave to see if somehow I unequiped and dropped it by mistake but it wasn't there. Find out that a Rust Monster or some **** had eaten my armor. Worst of it was that we saved instantly after the cave so my armor was gone. I was stark naked in my tighty whiteys, poor and broken.

My friend laughed for ages. Me? I felt destroyed. :(

I was torn between Dubsgalore's story and Bluesey's story so I had my wife be the tie breaker and she liked Dubsgalore's story the most. I'll contact him for shipping information etc, and congratulations. Also thanks to everyone that participated.

God damn, do the SS run that school?  What is the possible reasoning for such rules?
Gotta collect them all
