Questions about GH60 project
« on: Mon, 06 January 2014, 09:43:48 »
Hi,
I'm a noob here so apologies if this is the wrong subforum. I just want to check if my "dream" keyboard is possible to be made based on the GH60 PCB. Basically this is what I want:

- 60% with ISO return key and large ANSI left shift. (I don't care about missing the \ key since I don't use it anyway)
- same bottom row layout as the Poker 2 except the fn key is moved from the right side of the space bar to the left side. So it goes: ctrl, win, alt,fn,space, alt,pn,ctrl. all mods 1.25 and 6.25 space bar
- backlighting (i want the ability to mod it in myself)

I'm pretty sure the GH60 PCB can work with the above but I just wanted to double check, and also ask a couple of other questions:

- where can i find a plate which will fit the above layout?
- how would I go about sourcing a charcoal poker 2 case and stock pbt keycaps (i really like the look). I assume there must be loads of people who would be willing to sell me theirs since they have put on replacement keycaps and cases, but i also need to find both the ansi left shift and the iso enter which complicates things.
- i have missed the GH60 PCB group buy so is there any way i can now get ahold of the PCB? I saw someone mention mechanicalkeyboards.com might stock the PCBs at some point. And also that I could get the PCB produced myself but I haven't the first clue of how I could go about doing that.
- I gather that the GH60 PCB is intended to be used with a teensy controller. Is this reasonably easy to program myself? And does it allow me to remap any key including modifiers, fn layers etc?

Finally, in the case that the above is not likely to be possible, the alternative plan I have is to buy an ISO Poker 2 and mod the left shift to ANSI size. If I obtain a keycap from someone, how easy would it be to affix it onto the switch on the keyboard? I guess I would have to also attach it to the \ key switch and maybe desolder that so it doesn't register as a keypress. Would this be possible? Or would it feel like crap without a stabiliser? If i went with this plan i would obviously lose the ability to have the fn key to the left of the spacebar but i can live with that.

Sorry for the multitude of questions, I really appreciate anyone who takes the time to help me out :D

GH60 should be able to do this.

I don't believe this plate exists. You could have it custom made (there may be some people here willing to help you design it), or you could just go with a PCB-mounted board (easier and cheaper).

Once you've made 60 constructive posts you can post a WTB in the classifieds.

I've also heard that mk.com will stock them. You could also find one in classifieds or you could find a Rev. B on taobao (but you'd have to have it proxied).

Universal ISO plate should cover that. :)
