Hey there :)
« on: Thu, 30 January 2014, 08:34:07 »
Hello there :)
I'm interested in mechanical keyboards and when browsing the internet all roads seemed to lead to this place, - so I figured I should just join!  ;)
I built my first computer 2012 and realised that I had an interest in hardware and from that the step to mechanical keyboards was an easy one to make.
To be honest I had a standard HP with that set up before getting a mechanical, a full-sized scissor switch one.

I've had some problems with my right hand and wrist due to gaming and that is what got me looking into mechanicals in the first place and before I knew it
I was kind of sucked in!   I also realised that my keyboard to my first windows computer IBM 486 SX had been a model M which I had for a few years
and I can still remember that it did a slightly hollow "clack" sound if that makes sense. I don't have it any more, but I never ever gave me any problems.

After browsing and reading reviews etc I decided to go for a Filco Majestouch - 2 tkl Cherry Brown-MX because it seemed to offer the best quality, value and
versatility. I do enjoy some gaming, very modest mmo, rpg style. So it was ordered from Amazon UK and I am really, really pleased with it. There was only one problem,
I've also fallen for the Poker 2  and just had to have it. So I have now ended up with 2 mechanical keyboards!  Not sure how that happened??

I got the Poker 2 with the Cherry blue MX switch and love typing on it and find the "clickety" sound very satisfying and I like them for general typing and programming.
It also feels like it's slightly more resistance in the blues which I like. I preferred the browns for gaming, - although that may change as I get more used to the blues. As it is
now I use them both, and the only only thing I wish was different is that the Filco had a detachable plug to make it easier to hot swap them and that the print on the Poker 2
was  a bit lighter in colour :) I got the Poker with the PBT caps and no back light.

So at the moment I'm trying to learn how to touch type in between reading reviews on other types of switches/boards, and I'm not buying another keyboard, I'm
just going to get used to both and maybe figure out what I like the best. The good thing is that I've had no problems with my hand and wrist since I started
using these keyboards!! :D Usually I have to use a support glove because I get cramp at the back of my hand, so that is a major thing for me.

Best wishes
Tyra aka Marie

Sorry about that… what was I saying? Oh, right. GeekHack has tons of great group buys where you buy all sorts of awesome keycap sets to adorn your great keyboards! Don't worry about how much money you'll be spending. It's worth it.

I know..I kind of already decided to swap the abs caps on the Filco for something better,  I've just not been able to locate a set with UK ISO layout!   :D
