This has been on my radar since it was posted on eBay.

But since I just got an AT model F, I'm not really interested in another PC model F. Someone else should get this and XTant it up sometime.

I've never seen a non-working Model F that wasn't beat to hell. This one almost certainly works. It's hardly a risk.

The Teensy that is used for the converter will run you ~$20 as well, so just take that into consideration. For me, that $20 was once of the best purchases I've made. Having a Soarer's is just so convenient when trying to test a keyboard or hooking one up for regular use.

And yes. It has NKRO. You can press every single key and the computer will register them all. Not that it's needed, really... Convenient for very specific situations that I've encountered a few times, but not needed.

Awesome, thanks- I've been thinking about ducking around with Plover (stenotype for qwerty, leaning on several keys at once to type entire words at a time).

I'd be replacing this thermaltake 'poseidon' I just acquired, not a big fan of the cherry blues I guess, but if this bid falls through I might try adding some of those rubber bumpers...


As for the converter board- everyone's just soldering it directly to the end of the cable?
I'm inclined to splice out something like one of these connector dudes, since it looks like we're working with the standard (large) 5pin din plug- that'd work, right?

Yes, it works good. I cut off the ps2 part myself and wired the ends to my teensy.

Considering my notoriety for being clumsy and incompetent, if I can do it, anybody over the age of 12 without major disabilities can.

That is shocking, just last summer I had trouble selling 2 very clean, complete, tested ones in the $35 range.

I look at things in terms of proportion. It seems to me that an AT F is easily worth twice as much as an XT F. Personally, I think an F-122 is worth twice as much as an AT F, but I can understand that many people would consider the AT version the most desirable.

In any case, you would be nuts to spend $60-80 on an XT when you could get an AT in the $100-120 range!

Well, I paid $200 plus shipping for my AT Model F, I guess at the peak of their pricing/scarcity.

Agreed.

If someone is looking to try an F, the XT is the worst place to start. The layout is horrible, it requires a converter, and if you spend a little bit more you can get an AT.

I don't think an XT is worth $60.  Then again I don't think an ISSK is worth $2K so what do I know...

Auction sniping is efficient and elegant. It costs pennies and then only if you win. Auction Sniper gives you a few free ones to start.

You are always sure of getting by with the least amount possible, and it is automatic. And you never fuel any bidding wars.

There are 2 good methods. If you are serious about an item, put in a snipe at the maximum amount you would be willing to pay as soon as you see it, then walk away and forget it.

Or, put in a lowball snipe on every item that comes along, and eventually you may win one.

Snipes can be changed or cancelled until the last 5 minutes, and, if there is a Buy-It-Now with no other bidders, your last-minute snipe will kill the Buy-It-Now and you will get it at the starting price.

There is simply no reason not to snipe except for some sort of "purist" or "elitist" attitude that is irrational and counter-productive.

If you don't want to snipe, just bid your max. That's how it has always been. But don't worry, XTs are common enough. Wait one more week, two more and you'll get another listed.
