USB cables for KMACs
« on: Fri, 14 February 2014, 09:52:59 »
Hello all,

A question to all you KMAC users out there:  Are you able to just use ANY USB cable you have (with the right connectors) with your KMACs?

I ask because both my KMAC HAPPY and MINI will only work with a cable that I made, that connects the ID pin from the Mini-USB B to the ground pin of the USB A.

Anyone have any experience with this?  I'd like to be able to use just any cable.  I want to know if it is just my boards or if it is all KMACs.

Thanks!

-Tad

I tried my kmac happy with a regular mini cable that I got at a store and with a Nubbinator cable and they both work. I mean, every key worked for the couple of times I pressed then.

I have tjcaustin/mimic, mistakemistake/mimic, and TheFlyingRaccoon cables that I've used with my KMAC LE. I'm not sure about the pin outs but I haven't had any issues. The TFR cable has a right angle.

Thanks!  It must just be my KMACs.  Not sure why though.  I tried a PEXON cable on both, but it doesn't work on either of them, but it will work with my Techkeys business card and some other devices.

The thing is, no other cable I have will even power the KMACs, just the one that I made.

My friends works with any cable we attach to it. Read your thread and decided to check. I used a 10 foot energizer one that was used as a spare ps3 charger, the one that came with my KBT Pure, and the one that came with my old Shine II. All of them worked. He also uses a pexon cable with no issues.

My KMACs (1.2 and 2) worked with whatever I used them with (generic and mimic cable).

I wonder if it has something to do with the motherboard...  Thanks all for the replies!

Well, it works!  Just out of the blue.  I Just went to test it one more time, and my KMAC Mini powered right up!
