Closest Cherry switch to 55g Topre?

What's your opinion?  I've looked and made an educated guess that mx blacks seemed close.  I've never tried them though.

Try vintage blacks, I've heard their more smooth compared to modern blacks. Lubed. Or Clears lubed. I've heard this from people who say those two are comparable for enjoyment wise to topre.

Since the mechanisms are so different, there's not really a point in trying to find the most similar cherry switch to topre 55g. If you want to imagine what topre feels like, think of a rubber dome without the grindy plastic-on-plastic feel, and a crisp soft thock for a bottom out rather than the mushiness of RD.

I'm writing this on a RF87 45g.  The feel is a nice, but I'm curious what else is out there, as I've only tried blues and browns besides this :)  45 is on the light side, so I'm weighing options against trading for a RF 55g.

Watching some footage of black typing, I have to say that I'm not impressed by the no o-ring sound:
However, this one sounds much nicer (slightly misleading though because it's in a dampened room, for sure):

If you know how to type without bottoming out the noise is quite minuscule. There aren't very many things that sound better than a topre thock though.

I see.  I'd like to learn but I'm finding it difficult on a 45g.  Maybe that's weak excuse, though.

theres been zero confirmed cases of someone not bottoming out on topre.  i haven't even seen someone claiming they can not bottom out.

don't bother, topre is rubber and it's optimized for a comfy bottom out.

it's mx switches that are worth it because they have a horrible bottoming out sound.

generally, people that care not to bottom out prefer tactile switches.  it's really hard to not bottom out on linears

Blacks are the closest in pressure, but imo, blues are the closest in feel. There's a nice little tactile bump that's more noticeable than browns, but just barely less than blues.

55g Topre?  That's easy.  Cherry Clears.  Blacks have no bump at the top.

I own a Topre 45g, 55g and Cherry Clear board.  A board with Cherry Clears and 67g or 80g Korean springs would be ideal, but stock isn't too bad.

I can feel the collapse of the dome and know when it actuates, and it happens with barely a bit of pressure. So I would say maybe 3/4 of the way on the downward travel.


Really hard to explain, though. I definitely bottomed out (or at least felt it more) on the unmodified 55g.
