So today I was at my local Fry's Electronics.
I was browsing the laptop section when I noticed the Dell XPS 11 has a unique keyboard compared to all the other typical scissor switch keyboard

So I tried it by popping open notepad and just started typing.
The keyboard is definitely not a gamer's keyboard.
However for your typical typist, it turned out to be not so bad in feeling.
I quickly adjusted to using lighter pressure and it felt alright, it's different then any other key switch that I've experienced.
With it's hard back panel, it's definitely has a nice rigidity compared to those crappy membrane roll up keyboards where everything was overly mushy.
The only problem with Dell's implementation was this:
1) The key size was way too large compared to the now popularized Apple sized Island chiclet that I like.
I kept mis-typing because of that and hitting wrong buttons when I needed to (e.g. hitting '-' instead of 'backspace' key)
2) The layout for critical keyboard functions like the arrow cluster, Print Screen cluster is all screwy
3) The F-key row is half sized which I always find annoying
4) The Windows Key & Fn Key need to swap places
If Laptop manufacturers can get it through their skulls that alot of us keyboard typists would prefer a standard layout instead of some arbitrary placement that every manufacturer seems to love, they might just gain more sales.
If you folks ever get a chance to try the Dell XPS 11, it's quite a unique experience.
I wonder if there is a full blown keyboard with the Flat membrane style keys?
Anybody know of a keyboard that uses Dell's exact same key switch system, but with a more standard sized keys?
