Detachable cable mod for Filco
« on: Wed, 21 May 2014, 13:50:17 »
Hi! I'd like to mod my Filco with a detachable cable. Problem is, I don't like the connector to dangle out, but seamless with the case, as it is default with e. g. a Ducky. What do I need for that and how do I proceed? Is there a mod kit available? AFAIK the Filco cable cutout is similar in shape to an USB Type B plug, so I have to go for an USB Type B connector, right?

To mod it for a detachable cable, you'll need something like this:

Detachable Filco Mod by Pexon PCs

Note: With the above, you will still need a Mini USB cable to connect the keyboard to your computer.

Pexon also has a Detachable Filco Mod Kit that includes the Filco Mod and a Mini USB Cable.

I made this kind of mod to my PLU ML-87.
I used a mini-usb pcb mount connector that i bought on ebay.
I then soldered it to the cable that went in to the pcb.
To fasten the connector i used 2-component glue.
Here is a link to some pictures of my mod: http://www.sweclockers.com/galleri/8133-detachable-usb-cable-mod

The connector could fit in the hole for the cable with some sanding. Then i glued the connector on the inside.
The cable that goes from the connector goes to the wihite connector that goes to the pcb.

@Slavfot Does that mean you cut the given USB cable in half? What did you do with the remaining xxx cm of that USB cable?
