Keyboard recommendation & shops that ship to Canada?
« on: Mon, 13 April 2009, 08:15:25 »
I'm a newbie to the world of keyboards, having gone the shameful route of Logitech G15  (Died mysteriously with weird key repeating issues.) → Razer Tarantula (Entire keyboard flexes when the weight of your hand is on the keyboard.) → Microsoft Natural 4000.

I'm not entirely unhappy with the latter, but its space bar sucks, the keys are wearing down after two years of heavy use, and the plastic stands don't really lock in place so every other day I'll put too much pressure on the wrist rest and, click, in they go and I've suddenly got a declined keyboard.

In any case, having typed on a few Model Ms before I don't think I'm after buckling spring. Mechanical switches will do nicely, though I'm not exactly well versed in switch models.

I'm more interested in tactile feedback alone than tactile plus click feedback.

Lastly: I'm only interested in keyboards that have a good online distributor that ships to Canada. So far I've only found Elite Keyboards.
Keyboards: Filco FKBN104M/EB; Microsoft Natural Ergonomic 4000; Logitech G15 (Dead and gone); Razer Tarantula (Permanent cold storage)
Mice: Logitech G7; Logitech G5

You can't go wrong with a Filco from Elitekeyboards.  Since it sounds like you are a gamer, I would suggest the version with N-Key Rollover (NKRO).

BTW, welcome to GeekHack! :)

I'll second the suggestion for one of the Filcos from EliteKeyboards.com ... and welcome to the forums!  :)

I'm also interested in locating a good keyboard dealer within Canada.  Having said that, elitekeyboards will ship to Canada and offers warranty coverage here too.

Unicomp shipped out my keyboard to me in Europe, so I assume that they would ship to Canada too.

Ended up going with a Filco FKBN104M/EB. I'll see it in 5-9 days.

Exchange rate really hurts right now, but I think it'll prove to be a good investment. Getting a bit of an RSI flare up today due to this keyboard's hit-and-miss keys, and the fact that it slides around and won't stay in a decent position.

I got that same Filco last week and love it. It is all I have used ever since. Worth every penny.

I love the lumberjack skit.  That was f'ing hilarious.  I am glad BBC USA still runs Monty Python; it's the funniest stuff EVAR.

Hey, it's also now on Netflix WatchNow. My son keeps trying to pretend to be sick so he can stay home and watch it.

Sweet.  My Blu-Ray player streams Netflix, so that'll be perfect.  No commercials, either.
