Topre owner from SLC, UT joining, with a question
« on: Tue, 08 April 2014, 10:13:38 »
Looking to make the switch to cherry mx's (yes I know people usually go the other way)

So... why can't I post a topic on the classifieds forum? I'm looking for a kmac mini kit and wanted to post a WTB ad, but I can't start a topic for it...

There is a rule here for posting in classified. I think around 25 post and having spent 2 months here. Read the sticky in classifieds.

And it's usually best not to go on a SPAM rampage in order to reach your 60 post count.  ;D Simply reading, participating and engaging with the community will get you to your 60 posts in no time.

Speaking of, what kind of Topre board do you have?

Why are you considering switching to MX from Topre? I am curious about your reasons, and it would be very interesting to know it. As you suggested most move from MX to Topre as an "upgrade". From that perspective your decision may be seen as a "downgrade". BTW Welcome to GH.

Topre switches only have about 45cn of force, having just received a switch tester and having tried buckling spring boards, I'm a lot happier with something close to 65-80cn, I tend to bottom out and accidentally press keys on the topre. That and there's a lot more variation in cherry MX boards than topres or buckling springs (because really, in terms of typing feel, I'd probably be best suited to a model M).

I "believe" not positive, but Topre bottoms out no matter what. I think I read that somewhere? But anyways your problem is that you have a fullsize! :P You need an FC660C instead of that board.. I hear ya on the KMAC though! I want a Happy so bad! They make great boards! I am the same way as you though.. Just sold 2 of my Topre and got 2 MX. They are just funner! Clicky little fun switches with no dome, lots of keysets, lots of aluminum case options, plate options, led options, etc. I love my 45g Leo but for projects and fun stuff I love my MX boards! Welcome!

Well, it'll register keypresses without bottoming out, but in actual typing I bottom out most of the time.

I to live in Utah (near SLC). I don't have a K-MAC but I do have access to a keyboard in every Cherry MX switch type except white and red. PM me and we'll figure it out from there.

If you are interested of course.

I have some clears switches that will be on a GH60 once they show up. I do however currently have a QFR with Greens. Let me know if you would like to try them.
