Das Keyboard 4, WASD v2, Filco
« on: Fri, 16 May 2014, 08:00:56 »
So I'm in the process of hunting down a nice MX Brown equipped keyboard for my gf. She uses one at home and loves it... now she wants one for the office as well. Traditional rubber dome keyboards make her RSI go nuts.

I've pretty much decided on getting her a WASD v2 or a Filco.

However in the process of shopping around, I saw that there's now a Das Keyboard 4. When I looked for it on Amazon, I found it.. along with this little gem in the details:

"Extra long 66-foot long cable to extend nearly anywhere the user wants to operate"  66ft!!

As much as I'd love to see a keyboard with a 66-ft cable attached to it, I'm thinking this is a typo.. does anyone know the actual length of the cable?

The other thing that I was wondering, and hoping you GHers could help me out with.. is a WASD v2 with o-rings installed and a full keyset seems to cost *almost* as much as a Filco... so should I just bite the bullet and get the Filco?

How's the overall quality of a WASD v2? I've owned several Filcos, so I'm well aware of how solidly built they are.

Thanks in advance!

I believe that is a typo. I just checked Das website and it says "Extra long 6.5 ft (201 cm) USB cable with single USB type-A connector".
TMK Alps64 w/ Matias Quiet Switches in KBP V60 case.
Infinity60 with SKCM Orange Switches w/ TMK.
CM Storm QRF w/ Frosty Flake controller, Cherry MX Blue Switches and TMK firmware.

Coming:
Ellipse Model F F62.

The WASD is rock solid. I have a CODE (which is essentially just a V2 w/ Clears), and the construction is top notch. Between the two, I'd probably go with the WASD, although I think that the Filco case material is slightly higher quality.

One thing to note though is that the DAS v4 has a built in USB 3 hub.

I've always liked the minimalistic look of the WASDs, along with some of the functionality changes provided by the DIP switches... Filcos don't have that.

I don't think my gf will be able to tell the difference in case quality between a filco and a wasd v2.. hmm, seems like the v2 might be the way to go. Thanks for the quick review! It helps me out a lot

Adding my support for WASD. Their keyboards are pretty top notch from a construction perspective. A startling number of them have passed through my possession (I live near WASD's offices and give them as gifts / lends to budding keyboard enthusiasts) and all of them have been consistently delightful.
