Easiest method to buy a Poker II in the UK?
« on: Wed, 02 July 2014, 16:55:36 »
I will be working for a new company soon and they are very very strict about security. A lot of secret prototypes around the office and confidential information moving around email boxes.

They have a policy prohibiting external hardware in the office, including keyboards the company hasn't bought. The office is in the UK.

The flip side is that since they understand people need comfortable hardware to work with, they are very flexible and I can ask them to purchase whatever keyboard I want. Since I have a Leopold FC660M at my current work and loving the 60% layout, I have decided to get a Poker II for the new job. What is the easiest way to get a Poker II in the UK?

Amazon.co.uk

Most of the Poker 2's you'll find there are backlit ISO models, but you can find ANSI versions if you search enough: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Poker-Mechanical-Gaming-Keyboard-Cherry-Switch/dp/B00KKZ69E6/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1404374170&sr=8-7&keywords=kbc+poker+2
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.

I got mine from Amazon UK, arrived reasonably quickly too. I think it was from one of the marketplace sellers opposed to Amazon themselves.

I got a UK ISO layout non backlit.

The Poker II listed in Amazon UK are sold by Amazon or indepedent sellers? Just want to know because I expect my new company to have questions, and they will probably prefer buying it from a big company.

Any big store chains that could sell it and ship it to the UK?

Most of them are sold by independent sellers, but fulfilled by Amazon. Should be okay for your company since they're stored in Amazon warehouses and picked, packed and shipped by Amazon. Amazon also handles customer service for "Fulfilled by Amazon" products. If that's not good enough, then I'm afraid it'll be hard to find another place to get them that will satisfy your company. There are no big chain stores that I am aware of that sell them.

An alternative 60% size board sold by a reputable company in UK is the Filco Minila: http://www.keyboardco.com/keyboard/uk-filco-majestouch-minila-68-key-mechanical-keyboards.asp

Quite different layout and not programmable like the Poker II, though. Fn layer is reasonable.

How about HHKB? Any reputable company selling it? (Btw, reputable might not be the word we are looking for  :) )

Good luck with that.... Gonna be WAY harder to find a big store selling them since PFU doesn't export them to Europe AFAIK. Unless your company doesn't mind buying direct from a Japanese company?

This is all very speculative. Once I join I will ask my manager and see what are the limitations.

All this information is very useful though to answer any questions quickly.
