My Journey to GH Membership
« on: Tue, 27 May 2014, 20:44:22 »
16 months ago I purchased a Das Model S Professional with Cherry
MX Blue switches and became the proud owner of my first mechanical keyboard.
At the time, I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into.
I was nervous to spend so much on a keyboard especially not knowing
the difference between Blues and Browns.

Fast-forward 14 months...

I enjoyed the Das and the Blues, but I began to get curious.
I wanted to try something different, new and exciting.
Without realizing how deep the madness went,
I started lurking GH two months ago in search of a new keyboard.

Fast-forward 2 months...

I skipped the awkward years of experimenting with different Cherry MX switches to go straight for end-game boards.
Currently, I have a 55g-mod HHKB Type S,
a Realforce 45g/55g variable donor-board which I've put into a silver digilog aluminum case
and my old, reliable Das.

I'm excited to come out of the shadows to contribute to the community and collect topre novelty caps (clacks, brobots).

Welcome!

Those are some nice boards you have :thumb:. How do you like the 55g HHKB?

It's a dream. I love it... which means I either need to sell the RF or get more 55g domes.

That was similar to my journey, except my first Topre was a Leopold FC660C. It went a little something like this: Das Model S Pro (MX Blue) -> Leopold FC660C --> Realforce 87U 55g --> First novelty caps!! (clacks) --> Filco (MX Brown)

Welcome to GH!

Welcome, unfortunately 55g domes are a hard ask, I would also love some for my Type-s :)

Everyone talks about 55g domes. You also mean the spring too, right? I mean if I plan to mod the HHKB to 55g, I need to harvest both domes and springs.

In a Topre board, the dome provides all of the weight and return force. The spring's sole function is for the capacitance the closer it gets to the PCB.
