printf("hello geekhack");
« on: Fri, 30 May 2014, 06:35:04 »
Hello, hello.

For some strange reason, I felt compelled to get my first mechanical keyboard - which I did just this Sunday: a vanilla Filco Majestouch 2 with the yellow keycaps and blue switches (can't beat 'em). Before that, I was on a Sidewinder X6 (and before that, a Microsoft Multimedia and Sun Type 6).

Been lurking around for a while, reading up random threads. I just signed up primarily to join a group buy that caught my interest, actually, this one: http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=58110.msg1324673 (ordered Dolch and Granite sets!). But I figured I might as well post to not look suspicious!

I guess that's about it.

Definitely loving everything about it, from the solid build, the super elegant and simple design, to the flashy - but not gaudy - taxicab yellow keys.
Though as much as I am loving this, my family probably hates me for using this now, because it is insanely loud!
Initially thought of getting a Ninja, but a friend of mine bought the last one. I wasn't even going to get one anymore as all the other store stock was Cherry Reds, but I found a local store that did carry the yellow keycap version in Cherry Blues.
And it was all downhill from there.

Sigh, likewise. It hasn't even been a week and I've already signed up for a GB!
Not to mention I've asked a friend of mine, whom I usually course Japan-sourced purchases through, to get me a set of the Filco ABS SA doubleshot keys too.

Such a slippery slope...

Ohh, is this... ASP? I haven't touched code in over a year so my memory fails me.

yeah, you know you got wrapped into it when you started on import keycaps @_@;  Its been 2 weeks on this website and I already spent about 400 or so one of which is a KBTalking keyboard coming from china.  I need to know more people on more places to get these buys hahah. wait, you're buying a filco sset and a GroupBuy set? hahaha

Good to know I'm among my own kind LOL.
Is the majority of GH composed of CS/IT, or are there other demographics that get as much representation?

Some fanart swapped her's and Nico's hairstyles; I just photoshopped the glasses on.

Yep! I really like the Filco keycap set because the colors almost resemble bakelite from the early 1920s~40s. The TaiHao sets also have a really awesome color theme going on with the light/dark greys. I really wish the lettering on all the sets were large and centered though. But in general, I'm a huge fan of retro styled stuff, but with modern technology. Actually kicking myself for having missed so many group buys with that sort of theme.

I think IT guys are the majority of this community, probably because we use keyboards all the time.
Of course there are other kinds of geeks here who share the love for proper keyboards :)

This community is not a majority of any group you might think. The people here hail from many demographics. We're all brought together by one thing. The majority of the world uses a keyboard these days.

Many thanks everyone! The board is surprisingly really active!
Posts and replies come so fast - perhaps because everyone is so eager to type something? LOL

Welcome to Geekhack!

I spent months trying to get a yellow Filco with no luck.

I did eventually manage to get a set of the keycaps though :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Thanks again everyone! :D

Welcome to Geekhack!
I spent months trying to get a yellow Filco with no luck.
I did eventually manage to get a set of the keycaps though :)

We have a bunch in a local games store here and only one had the blue keycaps that I wanted, so it was clearly a sign that I had to get it, LOL
It's nice that you were able to get the caps too - I couldn't imagine parting with these because the yellow is just so beautifully striking.

Welcome!

Nice to see there's other members from here too! At least I have some people to consult with when it comes to local sources for this stuff!
