[WTB] Model M steel backplate and Stainless TKL plate
« on: Mon, 26 May 2014, 22:34:08 »
Looking to buy a steel backplate from a Model M.  Not worried about the condition so long as it is not completely destroyed.  I do not need the whole keyboard, just the back plate.  If you have a full Model M that you are willing to part with for cheap (working or not and any plug style) I could probably work something out.

Also looking for a stainless steel stock TKL plate.  Don't need the notches for easy opening of switches.  Will probably only put one type of switch in it anyway.

I have sent an email to unicomp about a plate so we will see what they say.

Mind me asking why you need a back plate and not the other parts? The back plate is by far the least likely to be broken or damaged. I can imagine myself screwing up a bolt mod and having to throw away a Chimney plate, but back plate?

It is for a project that I plan on working on that does not include the rest of the keyboard nor buckling spring switches at all.

HUH? Are you planning to build your own keyboard?

I'm thinking that there are other ways you can get your plate if no one here is ready to sell.

EG any thrift shop should sell half broken old Model Ms for a few bucks. Since you don't care about the other parts, it should be no problem.

And since it's just a metal plate surely you can get a similar one cut at some workshop.

Yeah I have checked all the local thrift stores multiple times over the last year and all I find are rubber dome.  The closest e-recycler is an hour drive though I stop by almost every time I get a chance.  I have picked up quite a few mech boards there for cheap including my current M for $5.  Don't really want to pay a shop to make one as the rolling gets expensive quick due to setup costs.

Got a hold of both.  Thank you Swill for the QFR plate, and dorkvader for the M plate.  Now to figure out the details on combining the two.
