Stupid Kmac question
« on: Sat, 07 June 2014, 02:10:07 »
Hi All,

I have been using a Kmac for a while. But I haven't tried to play with the configs yet. Well, I am trying now...

I found all the soft needed, but I can't find much on how to really using it.

Here is what I am looking for:
- What does the APP key stand for for?
- I don't seems to be able to change the behavior of the [Mod]+[key] -> I would like to have ALT+4 for £ and ALT+E for €
- On the layering, can create a play, stop, next, prev config?
- on the macros, can parameters? or is it only key combinations ?

I could find anywhere those answers but I am sure it is somewhere.. so thanks for your help

I don't have a KMAC but hopefully I can help answer some of your questions.

- I believe the app key is actually the "menu" key. You can google it. The key is usually to the left of your right control and pressing it usually acts as a right click (creates a popup menu). See this picture http://robburke.net/images/KeyboardApplicationKey.jpg

- As far as I know the keyboard firmware just tells the computer what keys have been pressed. It is up to the computer and it's operating system to determine how to handle it and what character to display. For example if you switch your windows layout to Azerty then pressing AltGr (right alt) and e should produce the € symbol no matter what keyboard you are using.

Someone correct me if I am wrong about any of that.

Yep, "app" key is "menu" (or context menu) on a normal keyboard, on the right between super and ctrl.

To do things like ALT+4 for £ and ALT+E for € you'll most likely have to configure that in the OS, unless there's a key layout that allows that with altgr. I'm not too familiar with that, but if you set your computer to an ISO keyboard layout, and ret the Right alt as altgr it should work.
For play/stop/prev/next music control, I think I remember seeing that functionality there, but I believe it'll only work on mac or something like that.
What sort of parameters do you want on the macros? I can show you how to do a macro, and there's examples in the default keymap (fn+f1-f3 outputs "the custom keyboard" or something like that.)

Thanks,

for £ and  € I did it though a custom keymap in windows, I was just hoping I could do something native.

I see that volume up and down is available but nothing else.

dorkvader, I was wondering if you can start and app via the macro, something start win explorer in a given location, or something like that. (I am assuming it is not possible as I am expecting to limited to a combination of keys. But doesn't hurt to ask ;) )

Thx.
