I've been working on two keys, still in sketches, but I've felt... odd about them.

To preface: I will not be making any money off of these particular keys. I will be donating the proceeds of all sales to GH, the Nathaniel J. Walter foundation and FTW! Gaming to End Hunger. (% distribution to be determined). I got this idea while working on designs for CherpKeys FoodKeys.

When I first started designing these keys, I didn't know a lot about SmallFry, or his family. As a lurker of the community for longer than I've been a member (and then lurked for what, a year after I joined??), I had read interactions, but without ever communicating with someone, it's very hard to get a feel for who they are and connect with them.

That has completely changed. I've become rather emotional after reading all of his old posts on GH and DA, reading his families' posts, and despite never getting to meet him or even speak to him, I want desperately to commemorate his life; both for his GH family and the Walter family. I'm a person who thrives on helping people and creating things, and I view this as an opportunity to do that.

That being said, the fact remains that I was a lurker, and so I want the community's permission to actually bring these keycaps to GH. I'm not ready to show the sketches tonight, as I've been mostly crying given that it's already June again, but I want your blessing before I move forward and start creating them at all.

Key: Number Row, MX , SmallFry's Hat, available in polished metals or hand-painted solid or translucent UV-cured plastic.

I'd love to own a couple of keycaps in tribute to my friend. SmallFry and I talked daily in the months leading up to the tragedy which took him from us, and I know he would be okay with it. He wouldn't want the attention, necessarily, but if the proceeds will go toward helping those in need, then it's definitely in the spirit of keeping his memory alive.

Thanks for doing this.

Thanks for your support.

Sorry that these prototypes/sketches aren't the greatest, I'll have better stuff to show soon.

I would buy, and hope that some of the proceeds would go to the charity Nathan's family is setting/set up

Yes, that is the plan. To split the donation between GH, the family's memorial fund for the boy scouts in their area and all food caps I'm making have a portion that goes to the charity I am setting up (FTW! Feed the World: Gaming to end Hunger) that splits between Share our Strength and Action against Hunger.

50% to GH, 35% to the Nathaniel J. Walter foundation and 15% to FTW.

thank you so much for doing this. i've been wanting to make a couple of food-based keys in nathan's memory for quite a while now, but just haven't been able to come up with a design that feels right.

I would also suggest that instead of 50% going to GH, if 25% could go to medicin sans frontiers instead, I would greatly appreciate it. I give to them every year, but was not able to last year. They do incredible work, and I try to support them whenever I can.

to all the brilliant friends who have left us, and all the students who climb on their shoulders.

I will see about changing around the %s to add in MSF. I know you were close with him, so I think he would want to help support the cause you care for.

I'm going to be in Europe for 2 weeks, so when I get back I should have some 3D prototypes to show.
