Looking At TKL with Cherry Stabs. What are some suggestions?
« on: Tue, 10 June 2014, 00:01:31 »
I have been using Filco TKL's for quite a while now, having gone through one with reds blacks and blues, and currently have one with browns in a vortex alu case. Being the nitpicky person that I am, there are two things I am not 100% satisfied about with my current board. The first is, because of the design of the alu case, with no standoffs and just sandwiching the plate along the top and bottom edges, there is quite a bit of vibration and flex in the plate while  typing along the middle part. I have remedied this by putting shelf liner in the case. There is no more unwanted vibrations and flex, however the sound is still a bit different (more hollow sounding) in that same middle part of the board. The second thing is costar stabilizers. While I appreciate the crisp feel and understand how many prefer it, I just don't like the rattle they inherently have (I have tried EK mechlube high viscosity, and only temporarily fixes the problem until an hour of typing later). I am interested in getting a new board with perhaps cherry stabilizers, and still have solid build quality. Do you guys think I should jump ship? I don't really think I can get another board in stock form that can match the feel of a Filco in alu case, but if you guys know of any cherry stab boards with 85% the solidity of an alu Filco, could you suggest them? I have been looking at fc750r, KUL, and shine 3.

Forgot to mention that I will be putting on my own keycaps, so stock keycap quality is a non factor.

All of those should have Cherry stabs, and Ducky boards are solid boards, some of them even come with clipped stabilizers afaik. You won't get the feel of an Aluminium case without one though, so I think it is time for you to get a Korean custom keyboard.
