Multiple key registrations
« on: Fri, 20 June 2014, 13:26:53 »
Hey everyone, I have a funnky issue with my Leopold and I'm kinda scared...

Some days ago, a couple of keys (m, nn, annd Enter) started registerinng more thann once. I press the key annnd instead of one key registration, I get two or more (you can already see that in some words). Some times it doesn't even register the n. At first I didn't thought it a big deal because you know, sometimes we type a bit differently.

I paid more attention today though and I realised that it wasn't me, it was the actual keys. It seems that it registers the keypress on both the press down and release of the key?

I cleaned the keyboard with compressed air to get rid of any dust and also removed the specific keys to see if anything was stuck underneath. Nothing, totally clean.

If this happened to any previous membrane keyboard I'd just get another and wouldn't give a ****. In this case though I'm a bit terrified if it's a malfunction...

Any ideas?

Your keyboard has some chatter. You can check the soldering joints to see if they're ok with a multimeter. Then fix those solder joints. If that doesn't work, just put some drawer liner or foam between the PCB and the bottom of the case to see if that fixes the issue.

I had this same problem on my Leopold FC700R. The drawer liner fixed it. I suspect that the case was slightly conductive and the PCB was contacting it and messing with the circuit. That's just a guess but I know I fixed it.

Oh boy I feared for this answer :)

Well, I'll start with the drawer liner since I know we have some lying around. I hope my father has a multimeter and knows how to solder joints if I come to that part, I don't know anything about that stuff :P I'll try YT and find guides.

Thanks for the answer man, much appreciated  :thumb:

Well this sucks... Finally had time today to dissect my keyboard and place the drawer lining inside, only to find out that it makes no difference and the chatter is still there and on some other keys as well... Also, none of the soldering joints seem to have any visible issue...

I'll keep using the keyboard even with the chatter unless it becomes unbearable. I'm so disappointed right now...

Just because there's no visual issues doesn't mean the joints are good. Could also be a switch issue. Could be a good chance to learn how to solder.
