Delete/backspace key on Matias not working
« on: Fri, 11 July 2014, 17:25:42 »
I just got my Matias Mini Tactile Pro keyboard from Massdrop and my delete key sounded weird so I took off the keycap and found that the stabilizers weren't in correctly. I tried just popping the keycap back in but they didn't line up. So I tried to take it off again and this time the thing that held down the stabilizer fell off. I was able to get it back in but now the Delete key doesn't work at all. And yes I have tried just testing it with the keycap off and it doesn't work. I had to remove some of the other keycaps around it and they still work.

So they key worked before you popped the keycap off? The logical conclusion would be that you damaged the switch when you popped it off, although it should really be quite difficult to damage a switch like that.

If you are confident you were gentle and didn't damage anything, maybe something occurred at the factory that caused a faulty switch + a faulty stabilizer at the same time (e.g., too forceful an application of the keycap, but this also seems unlikely).

I think #1 is more likely, especially if the key was working previously, but I wasn't there so can't say with 100% certainty.
Please consider carefully before you decide to comment, for Jesus.

Can you take a picture showing the switch + stabilizer bar as well as the bottom of the keycap with its stabilizer inserts? I’m having a bit of trouble understanding exactly what happened to which pieces.

Well the stabilizer wasn't even on correctly, one of the usb cables not working(a 2 sided usb cable does not exist yet!) and the legends look deformed. I think I am going to request a refund and at the very LEAST they should replace it.

Can you take some pictures? It’s probably not too hard to get that broken switch working again, but you have to figure out what’s wrong with it first. (Though Matias is a nice company with a great support team: they’ll probably trade you for a new keyboard.)

Also, Matias does have double-sided USB plugs.

I should be getting an RMA soon. I sent them pictures of everything that was wrong. Also the switch itself looks the same as the others and I do not have the confidence to open it up. Might as well just replace it.
