Recommend / buying a new board
« on: Fri, 18 July 2014, 23:08:34 »
I'm currently using a unicomp keyboard and haling it around Is becoming less and less practical as it is a large 5 pound keyboard. So I'm looking at new ones I was considering the keycool 84 but with little info on the new kailh switches none for me thanks. I went on to check out the noppoo choc mini but someone on the a thread here kind of bashed them and said changing the key caps was near impossible.

So I found a new board I like at a price I'm willing to pay. The Vortex PKX7500 Race II with cherry mx blues. Up until a week ago I've never even heard of the brand vortex. So what is everyone's opinion on this board or just the brand it's self.

I'm also going to order the board from mechanicalkeyboards.com a website I've never used how good are they about shipping and returns of defective products?

Any input is much appreciated this is a big investment for me since I'm starting a new job, So I'm currently tight on money and hoping that this board will help pay for itself thanks!

There may be KC84s with Cherry lying around somewhere... Check ebay stores to see if any of them still have some in stock. Alternatively send a PM to xuanwumen and he may have some left.

KC are awesome and I hate them moving to Kalih :(
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

If you like the Unicomp board, you might also want to try one of Matias’s keyboards, e.g. http://matias.ca/miniquietpro/pc/ or http://matias.ca/minitactilepro/mac/

Yeah I searched newegg, amazon, mechanicalkeyboards, and ebay. The only KC84s that are still alive seem to be brown and black switches sadly. That's why I like the vortex it seems very similar layout, and style wise and is using cherrys.

I love alp's switches there kind of my thing but. I don't like the matias pro layout, design, or style anywhere near as much as the few board's I mentioned

I've purchased keyboards as well as key cap sets from mechanicalkeyboards.com and they've always delivered everything in a timely fashion, I've had no problems or complaints. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase from them again.
I can't say about returns because I've never had the need to return anything, sorry.

If you like buckling springs, and alps, what makes you think you'd like MX? If the design is the problem, maybe you should do some form of custom alps.

Hi, If you want cherry mx blue keycool 84, we have some in stock. But they are the backlit versions, with purple and pink backlights for option.
For non backlit kc84, guess they disappear from the market now.

It may help you.

Thank's good to know It's always nice to see vouchers for websites. The free shipping from them is starting to look more and more appealing.

I have typed on mx keys before. I will say that I'm not the biggest fan in the world of buckling springs even for my heavy fingers 8 hours straight 5 days a week on them get's tiring but there longevity seemed to appealing for me to pass up. I know with them if my other board's break this one will survive.

A custom form of alps? I personally do not have the knowledge/time to do that, Or probably the current expenses to pay someone to do that I'm looking for more of under 180s range until my new job start's going well and everything stabilizes again.

Thank you very much while I do not really want the back light version I may have to settle. The keycool I really wanted was the all white 84 key non backlight one with cherry mx blues. Sadly I think you are right about all of them disappearing.

Ask this man:

http://deskthority.net/vendors-f52/keycool-mechanical-84-87-108-with-cherry-mx-clear-switches-t7182.html

http://deskthority.net/vendors-f52/keycool-84-ii-mechanical-keyboard-with-backlights-mx-brown-t7204.html

Should still have plenty for sale.

Interesting, very interesting It looks he has the all white non back light board's but without cherry mx blue's. He seem's to have them In clear's which is a switch I've never typed on but I've heard a lot of hype around, the other switches he has in stock besides those don't exactly appeal to me though sadly. Thanks for the links.

I had a defective unit I received from mechanicalkeyboards.com. Exchanging it for a new one was easy and quick. I will definitely order from them again.

Thanks good to know!~

Now all I have to do is do my research about the vortex brand / board since I've never heard of the company.
