Hello! (And some help needed)
« on: Sun, 20 July 2014, 13:53:29 »
Hello there! I'm from Brazil, discovered this forum yesterday when searching Google about mechanical keyboards. I hate forums, they are confusing to me, but I'll give it a try and see if I change my mind.

I already read some posts, also watched some videos on YouTube and some blog posts, and I liked what I saw. In the past I worked as a electronics technician and I still play with it as hobbyist, the idea of making my own keyboard has a great appeal to me.

After some research I've found that the GH60 is a better choice for me. It's configurable and since I want to construct a PT_BR keyboard (ABNT 2 layout: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:KB_Portuguese_Brazil.svg), I think it's a better option.

At Komar's blog http://blog.komar.be/introducing-the-gh60-keyboard-project/ I've found that GH60 can be configured in many layouts:

And brazilian ABNT 2 layout is like this (image from Wikipedia):

So I compared both and reached this layout:

I don't know if that's possible (and correct me if I say something wrong), but the bottom row will not change from ISO layout. If not possible, than I'll stick with the green layout for bottom row. The row immediately above will have the green layout option at the left and the blue layout option at the right. And the big ENTER key will be used, providing an necessary extra key at middle row: c-cedilla is so used in Portuguese that it's a very useful key in a keyboard.

My need for help is this: I wandered around the forum, saw that there were some group buys of PCBs, none active for new buyers. I already found some site to buy the Cherry MX switches, still looking for the stabilizers (already read that Cherry stabilizers are better than Costar ones), a plate, a suitable case, keycaps and the GH60 PCB (I read that there is/will be a rev. C board, is it already available?). Since this keyboard will be used for some 'serious' applications, I don't mind using 'dull' colors on it. The problem is: where can I source those things? Understand that I don't know how to use forums, specially search, the results always confuses me and I never find what I want (I'm getting old,  guys). If there isn't any group buy active, I'm not afraid to pay some extra to arrange those items, specially the keycaps (c-cedilla, I'm looking at you!). The electronic components are easy to find for me.

Thank you very much for your time, I hope to learn more.

Probably not what you wanted to hear, but I think you best bet is to hang around and reply to things until you have enough posts to participate.  Maybe you can learn to use forums too.
