Hey hello! SlashCamp here!
« on: Wed, 06 August 2014, 11:16:48 »
Holla holla get dolla.
I'm SlashCamp. Web developer by day, keyboard aficionado by... always. Currently in a relationship with a Ducky Mini, Mx Browns with white lights. I heard about this forum a couple of months ago and I've finally decided to take the plunge to join you people as more than a lurker.

So I've got a quick question since I believe you are pretty knowledgeable about your caps. I've been searching for blank golden keycaps for about 4-5 months now and the only hint about their existence is from a group buy from 2012 on GH. Does anyone know about a vendor that sells caps that match my description, alternatively, is it possible to dye silver zinc to a golden colour?

Welcome Slashcamp.

I know there are gold-toned zinc caps, but I haven't seen blanks. MKC makes an alpha set thought (link).

Hope that helps and welcome to GeekHack!

SlashCamp, just be careful of "schmelting" with that gold lust. Anyways, welcome!

Welcome to Geekhack!

These are not blank, but ... http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=39262.0

And the images won't load for me, but Google seems to indicate these are gold: http://www.thisnext.com/item/CA58A09F/ZIP-ANG-Keyboard-gold-plated
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
