New guy here!
« on: Tue, 05 August 2014, 18:19:08 »
Hello to all! New here and found this from the mech keyboards reddit. Bought 2 pokers with clears and the addiction started. Since buying the pokers, I have looked at the duck eagle GB, a realforce variable weight, Filco TKL, an SSK, a completely custom board, and after thinking about the custom, a soldering starting kit. Please stop showing glorious keyboards so I stop trying to buy them! figured I'd stop buy here and say hello to other noobs. Proud to be a geekhacker!

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I can sense the force is strong with this one. Tread lightly young Padawan, for this place is full of pitfalls.

Can already tell the Duck eagle isn't happening, because I am losing my mind waiting 42-45 business days for the stupid pokers. But the others... I will certainly be testing my willpower with this new hobby.

It gets better (or worse depending on your point of view) the longer you're here.  Eventually you'll be involved in so many GB's and waiting on so many different things that you just lose track.  You'll check your mail or come home after work to find a package waiting for you and wonder what it is.  Open it up and hey, a board!  Or, hey, a plate!  Caps!  Eventually the waiting period really isn't that bad.

Oh, and welcome.  ;D

Welcome to Geekhack!

That's a really impressive list of what you own/want to own!

I'd say prepare for your wallet to get even lighter if you're into artisan caps as well! We have some really talented keycap makers around here!  :)

Thanks! thankfully i am unwilling to pay anymore than 10 bucks for a single keycap but that will most likely change. If I were to assemble a custom keyboard this would no doubt be my keycap set: [http://www.originativeco.com/collections/keysets/products/sanctuary

Two Pokers with the same switch? Bro, you crazy.
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

If you are planning on participating in group buys, you will need to learn patience :p

Some of those go on for months!  Toxic has lasted several years (if you include the original Toxic GB).

Sanctuary is a great looking set and would look amazing on one of your poker's!  Just a tip-If you do plan on buying a set, I would e-mail Sheraton over at Origininative before ordering to ensure he can ship it promptly.  His company has been less than reliable in fulfilling orders in a timely manner lately, but when the wheels are turning over there, they get orders out pretty quick.

Bought one for notes in school and the other with the purpose to trade/ sell because it's a rare combo. That's is why it is a bad idea for me to see the group buys because I will probably end up doing that with a lot of different group buys on this website.

Thanks! that is a good tip! I'm hoping to buy a Majestouch 2 TKL, buy a black metal case for it, then put Sanctuary on it, but I would also like to have a slight amount of money left. Decisions, decisions!
