Help keyboard repair
« on: Thu, 14 August 2014, 14:19:17 »
Hello everybody!
I need some help from you guys who know mechanical keyboards and electronic parts. This is regarding to this thread with my broken keyboard. As is said there the first row of letters are not working anymore except "T" and "Y". The transistors, resistors and the other electronical parts don't look burned or damaged or anything, except the crap soldering, "factory original", which i believe it may have something to do with the problem.
So any of you guys had this problem or heard of it on a mechanical keyboard ? Any ideea and advice of testing or anything would be most welcomed. Thank you.

a keyboard of mine had a similar problem, mainly because the previous owner burnt out all the traces on the thing.

What you can do is go download aquakeyboardtest ( shows if keys are working or not ) plug in your keyboard.

Get a piece of wire, and just start connecting the ends to see if you can at least trigger any of the letters not working, from there, you can hunt down the bad connection if there is one.

Also, if you have an iron, it may be a good idea to just reflow all the solder joints.

Or you can use a multimeter to check the solder joints to see where the solder joints are bad. Also, there might be a bad joint at your controller.

From your picture in that topic, you can sorta see the soldering around T and Y.

There might be a cold joint on the diodes for them: sorta looks like it.

I'd reflow the solder on all the joints. (Switches and diodes)

Thank you for the quick responses.
I'll check the solder on those keys and diodes more closely to see what i can find.
