Ordered an I-Rock and found out it didn't have a windows key!!! Canceled and reorded the ABS M1 from Newegg, I'll let you know what it's like for me, should be here by Friday! So glad I found this site it is the only place you can get good info on the keyboards and if it really matters to you like it does me we are extreme geek hacks for sure.

Glad we could help. That being said, if you keep reading this forum, you will be opening the flood gate. I started with a Customizer in February, and a few months later, I own 5 keyboards. I like them all, although I have a preference for the Cherry. I like the ABS and the Dell because I can use them at work. Their noise level seem more acceptable than the Customizer. Even though the Cherry does not seem louder than the ABS M1, the click might annoy some of my colleagues. On that side, the Filco Zero might be annoying to some colleagues too.

Good for you...all the best.

Thanks.  She just got her first teaching job here in Texas.  We went out and celebrated last night.

Congrat's on the job!  I got my ABS and I have one thing to say...

CLACKITY  & LOUD!

I do like it and I will get used to it, I have used keyboards like this before and I like it. I also use the Cherry keyboards at work and I have to say they are nice. I wouldn't mind having something like one of them also. I always thought they were some "very well made in Taiwan" brand never to be had again until I found this place and decided to flip one of them over and found out that they are made in Germany! What would be the equivalent to a Cherry? Other than buying a real one because the models at work have to be very expensive.

There is a Chinese Lettered one.

Very nice keyboard. It has become my favourite one over the past two weeks.

Patrick, looking at your sig it looks like you have two of them now.  Congrats!!

Pretty soon that kid of yours will be old enough to get one!

Thanks. I thought a lot about it. With the Canadian dollars appreciating against the US dollar, it was worth it. I wanted to try a Filco with Brown Cherries, but two factors made me go with the Cherry.

- Price. The Cherry cost roughly half of what the Filco would have cost me.
- I know the Cherry. I've used it and liked it. The Filco, I don't know. I'm not saying that it's not a good keyboard though.

Now, I'm off to the airport to pick up the girls :whoo:

You can get one of a Cherry G80-3000 with blue cherries, but with Chinese characters side by side with regular alphabet from gemenicomputers.com for $66.25 (US).

Some are made in Germany, some in the Czech Republic.

Cherry offer several different types of their MX switch (out of the five or so currently made) and their FTSC mechanism in their keyboards so you'd either need to check the model number or pop off a keycap (the stems are colour coded for the MXs) to find out which one the Cherrys at work use.

The model number will be something like G80-8100LPCUS-0.

The colours for MXs are in the wiki: http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?title=Cherry+switches

You can find a picture of the FTSC/MY mechanism here: http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?t=6174

The Fake Alps Blacks I believe are the sort generally refered to as 'tactile' around here, they have a physical notchy bit where they register but no click. The Cherry MX equivelent would be brown or clear versions. They're apparently difficult to get in the US with the Filcos or a second hand Compaq MX11800 being your main options (both have the browns).
Owned: Raptor-Gaming K1 (linear MX)(Broken), IBM Model M UK, Dell AT102W, Left-handed keyboard with Type 1 Simplified Alps.
