Holiday trip to US
« on: Wed, 15 July 2009, 13:13:36 »
Hi!

I was just wondering if it is anyway possible to order from a US webshop (like elitekeyboards.com or unicomp's webshop) and have it delivered to a hotel.

Just thought I'd ask since my bro is going to the US for a holiday in a couple of months and that way I'd save the shipping costs to Finland.

this might be problematic because travel time in the mail system can vary quite a bit and the timing would have to be pretty exact to deliver it before your brother leaves. Also both the hotel and the shipper might have an issue with delivering to a hotel. You can try though, cant hurt to ask.

If its a major city, you might be better off asking geekhackers if anyone lives anywhere near the hotel where your brother is planning to stay at, and asking them if they'd mind taking delivery of the package.

Don't know exactly what keyboard you are thinking about, but for the question, we are asked quite often to deliver to resorts and hotels.  Not typically a problem if the logistics are worked out ahead of time.

Good luck!

any proper hotel will accept packages for guests. UPS and Fedex ground shipping will sometimes vary up to two days in either direction from the original delivery estimate. just be sure to plan accordingly.

That's the way I got my customizer among other stuff, buy I stayed 10 days in New York, be aweare to have a considerable time window of two or three days.
Other than that I don't think you may have problems with the delivery.

Just to add to what others have said already. If you know what keyboard you want, then contact the supplier to make sure that they have it in stock. Maybe offer a deposit for setting one aside until your brother gets there.

Great!

Thanks for the tips. Currently I own a Das III and I have ben very satisfied with it, but the more I spend time here at geekhack the more I feel like I would like to try the other keyswitches out also.

Perhaps I will go for the Customizer first and keep on dreaming about topre 87. :)

How much do you really want the Topre? The reason why I'm asking this is if you really want the Topre over the Customizer, then maybe it will be better to not spend the money on the Customizer and use it for the Topre instead. The last thing you want is to keep thinking about the Topre and tell yourself you should have gone with the Topre instead of the Customizer. Just a thought.
